Alain Chabat (born November 24, 1958 in Oran , Algeria ) is a French actor , film producer , director and screenwriter .

Life

Chabat came to France with his family from Algeria in 1963 and began his acting career in the 1980s with comedic appearances on television. In 1995, a leading role in the comedy A Woman for Two , which was a box office hit in France , earned him his first nomination for the French César Film Prize . In it he plays an unfaithful husband whose wife is hooking up with a lesbian.

In 1997 Alain Chabat directed the comedy Didier for the first time , in which he also played a leading role - a dog in human form. For Didier , Chabat received a César for the best first work by a director. In 1997 he played a leading role in the dark police thriller Le Cousin - Dangerous Knowledge .

He achieved greater international fame in 2002 as the director, co-producer and screenwriter of the movie Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra , in which he also played the role of Julius Caesar . For this role he was nominated for an audience award at the European Film Awards 2002.
