Agnès Jaoui (born October 19, 1964 in Antony near Paris ) is a French actress , writer and director .

Life

Jaoui comes from a Jewish family who emigrated to France from Tunisia .

Jaoui often works with Jean-Pierre Bacri as a scenarioist and actress . Bacri and Jaoui were also a couple in private for a long time. The films are often based on plays that the two had written and previously performed. The theatrical presentation can still be recognized in the comedies themselves by the few actors involved and the spatial unit.

She has received several awards for her scripts, her directorial work and also as an actress. Her film Lust auf anders (Le goût des autres) won four Césars in 2001 , including César for best film of the year and for best screenplay. For look at me! she received the European Film Award for the best screenplay, together with Jean-Pierre Bacri, who, like herself, played a leading role in the film. Jaoui was also nominated for Best Director at the European Oscar and received the Screenplay Award at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2004 .

Jaoui began taking singing lessons at the Paris Conservatory at the age of 15. Singing - in her own film Comme une Image she plays a singing teacher - she also accompanies her in acting again and again. In the spring of 2005, she toured a couple of French cities with some South American friends with a show called Historias del amor . This program resulted in the CD Canta , released in 2006.

Jaoui and Bacri continue their successful collaboration with their new film Tell me something about rain (2009). Jaoui also wrote the script herself for her third feature film and was represented as a director and leading actress both in front of and behind the camera.

In 2017 she was appointed to the competition jury at the 70th Cannes Film Festival .
