action

The Frenchman Philippe Le Tallec is an internationally known nuclear biologist who has received numerous awards. He has lived and worked in Boston for 15 years . He last saw his daughter Églantine when she was a toddler, as she grew up with his divorced wife. When she goes abroad for three months for work, Philippe agrees to take care of Églantine during this time. During this time he wants to help his friend Guy with research in his little Paris laboratory. Philippe travels to Paris, but quickly realizes that Églantine is no longer the little girl he remembered. Nor does she see a hero in him as he had always imagined. The next disenchantment awaits in Guy's laboratory. Although the researchers are fascinated by meeting a star in science, the laboratory is poorly equipped and Philippe has to deal with a subject that he does not even know: the investigation into regenerating hair. The young, bald Barbara is at his side as a "guinea pig".

Églantine are concerned with two things: her classmate Vincent, with whom she is in love, but who only has eyes for her classmate Karine. And the blog of a certain "Shirley" who is apparently a classmate and writes about her love affairs with a teacher at the school. She always shows her body in pictures, but not her face, so Églantine and her friends Anne-Sophie and Zoé only know that Shirley has a tattoo at chest height. In order to draw Vincent's attention to herself, she gets him back in an adventurous way his cell phone, which the director had confiscated. Églantine is caught and has to be picked up from school by Philippe. He is not at all enthusiastic about it, especially since his daughter has good grades, but miserable behavioral grades. Since his imaginary friend Albert Einstein advises him to do so, Philippe gives Églantine a slap in the face when she reacts cheekily. He also sees that she is wearing a navel piercing, which he wants to stop. However, Églantine locks herself in her room and calls for help when Philippe tries to kick the door down. Shortly afterwards, not only the neighbors appear, but also the police.

Philippe's brother-in-law, Jean-Maxence, is the author of numerous books dealing with the interaction between parents and young people. He invites Philippe to attend one of his youth understanding courses, but Philippe declines. He tries to negotiate a "truce" with Églantine: if she removes her piercing and goes to see The Children of Olympus with him , in return he will allow her to party in the house. At the party, Philippe is so embarrassed that Églantine throws him out after a few minutes. Philippe can no longer prevent Églantine and Vincent from getting closer and bribes Églantine's best friend Enzo to keep them both away from each other. Since Vincent dances with Karine all evening, Églantine now goes offensively to her sandpit friend Gaspard to make Vincent jealous. In the end, Philippe causes a power failure through clumsiness and the party is broken off. When Églantine learns by chance that Enzo was paid to prevent any moment with Vincent, the relationship between father and daughter is deeply disturbed. Philippe now attends Jean-Maxence's seminars and learns a lot about the behavior of young people, their language, their way of writing text messages, etc. He develops an understanding for them and one day even gives her a new piercing, even if he gets scruples when she actually wears it. Meanwhile, Églantine has other problems: She learns that Gaspard has been in love with her for a long time, even if she only sees him as a very good friend. Nevertheless, she agrees to meet Gaspard for a concert by the Black Sperm group . She is surprised that Vincent is suddenly standing in front of her instead of Gaspard. Gaspard gave him his ticket. Vincent begins to kiss Églantine, but she realizes that Vincent is not right after all. She leaves the concert under a pretext before it has started. She tries in vain to contact Gaspard, but learns from her friends that he is at a rave. Philippe forbids her to go to the rave and an argument ensues. Églantine's cousin Charlotte also has an argument with her father Jean-Maxence: He found out that Charlotte is behind the character "Shirley" and does not believe his daughter that she made it all up. Églantine and Charlotte break away together and make their way to the rave. Philippe and Jean-Maxence follow them and Philippe finally manages to find both in the crowd. Églantine also met Gaspard and they both reconcile and become a couple. Philippe has no objection to the relationship, especially since Églantine makes it clear to him that it won't be their only relationship before she eventually bonds. Since Philippe has had great success with his hair research, he will stay in Paris longer - especially since he has fallen in love with Barbara. Although he now appears to the outside world as a tolerant father, he is still concerned. When Églantine goes to the cinema with Gaspard, it's Enzo again who will keep an eye on the couple for a few euros.
