Clara and the Great Guys is a French feature film directed by Jacques Monnet from 1981.

action

A group of friends meets regularly in Grenoble : the young policeman Mickey, who lives in a relationship with a significantly older woman, the young Louise, whose parents are constantly arguing, Frédéric, who could never please his parents, the married couple Charles and Aimée and Bertrand, who has only recently joined the group and has two children with his wife who only speak English (in the French original, the children speak German). They are all united by their age - they are around 30 years old - their mostly insecure professional situation and their love of music, as they form the band Why Notes . Together they prepare for a performance in Paris, where Charles has class reunions. In Paris, Louise also wants to meet her pen pal Edith, whom she has never seen, but with whom she wants to drive a rally that same year.

The way to Paris turns out to be adventurous. After an argument with construction workers, the tour bus of the troops is smashed and they have to travel to Paris by train. Bertrand, in turn, has left the group to follow young Clara. She had married that morning and stormed out of church after an argument with her newlywed husband. During a stopover with the still whole tour bus, Bertrand had seen her again and on a sentimental whim she had suggested escaping with him. Because he did not respond immediately, she went back to her husband, who considered her only his property and not his wife. When Bertrand realizes his mistake, he takes a plane to Paris, where he visits her apartment. He announces a meeting point not far from the apartment for the rest of the band. When the group arrives, they cannot find him at first: Bertrand jealously wanted to climb up the facade of the high-rise building in which Clara lives with her husband to get to her window, but got stuck on a billboard. Clara, in turn, left her husband and the house at that time and went to her friend. While the band members call the fire department, Mickey is sent to Clara to bring them together with Bertrand. Clara, in turn, lets Mickey tell her about police anecdotes that night. In the end, both of them sleep together, which the band members experience, but not Bertrand.

The time in Paris will change the lives and relationships of friends. Mickey forgets his wallet with Clara, whose friend calls Mickey's friend to find the holder. So she learns that Mickey has cheated. Bertrand sends his wife a letter in which he separates from her. He wants to get together with Clara, but she doesn't love him. Louise realizes that Edith will only take part in the rally with her husband, a photographer. The couple, in turn, quarrel just like Louise's parents at home - a situation that Louise actually wanted to escape through the rally. A rift breaks out between Charles and Aimée when Aimée meets a former lover in Paris.

In the end, the problems go away. The Why Notes performance is a success and the group returns to Grenoble. Aimée and Charles are reconciled because the former lover no longer has any charm for Aimée. Mickey's affair will be forgiven by his girlfriend, who wasn't always faithful herself. Bertrand realizes that Clara does not love him and will intercept the letter to his wife at the postman to save his marriage. Clara stays with the group of friends and will learn to drive in the next few weeks because she wants to drive the rally with Louise in Edith's place.
