action

Étienne, Daniel, Simon and Bouly are best friends who are united by a common passion for tennis. Étienne lives with his wife Marthe and their two daughters. Daniel is homosexual without saying any further about it. Doctor Simon has a relationship with young Mireille, which is frowned upon by his dominant mother. Tennis court owner Bouly, on the other hand, lives separated from his ex-wife Marie-Ange and their four children and is engaged to Daisy, who has three children. Since he propagates free love, which his ex-wife in particular claims, he is also repeatedly nanny for four to seven children.

The always restrained and somewhat stiff Étienne one day happened to find a photo in his wife's clothes showing Marthe and a gray-haired man kissing deeply. He begins to watch Marthe and set her little traps, so he calls her anonymously and sends her flowers. Marthe, however, does not reveal that she has a lover. Instead, she often spends her evenings with a theater group rehearsing Jean Racine's Bérénice .

The four men happened to find a house for sale with a tennis court on the outskirts of Paris. They pool money and buy the house. The first night after buying them, they sleep in their new property, only to be woken up the next morning by the deafening noise: the house is right next to the Paris airport. The realtor used a 24-hour pilots strike to sell the house cheaply. The uninhabitable house is not Étienne's only concern. He still suspects his wife is having an affair, but one day he follows the wrong man and slaps him. In response, the man demolishes Étienne's car. Étienne's next attempt to catch his wife cheating fails even more seriously. He pretends to be traveling abroad for three days, but actually takes a hotel room across from his own apartment. Marthe does not remain hidden, so that she now believes in turn that Étienne is having an affair. He remains silent at the perversion of the charge. There is a crisis not only in his marriage, but also in his friendship with Daniel, Simon and Bouly. They continue to meet on the tennis court of their new house, but a game ends in the noise of the aircraft and finally a real brawl, whereupon all four men avoid each other for a while.

During this time, Daniel begins affairs with women because, in his own opinion, he is standing next to him. Étienne finds out that the kiss photo was taken during Marthe's rehearsal and is harmless. Simon, in turn, has an affair with a patient with whom he goes on vacation. On his return he is expected at the train station by Étienne, Daniel and Bouly, who inform him that his mother has died. Simon collapses. After the funeral service, Daniel tells his friends that he will marry his boss Marie-Christine. However, the wedding ends at short notice because Marie-Christine cannot imagine a marriage with Daniel. Life goes on. Étienne starts an affair with a colleague with whom he wants to go on a short trip to Bordeaux . His friends drive him to the airport. Here the three see Marthe kissing theater colleague Benoît. They overhear how she breaks up with him after they both had an affair for a long time. Marthe discovers Daniel, Simon and Bouly, who run away from her and thus bring Marthe and Étienne, who is waiting for his lover, together. The friends spontaneously pretend that they brought Simon to the airport, not Étienne. Simon plays along and flies to Bordeaux. Étienne's lover withdraws discreetly while Étienne and Marthe take a taxi home. Both Étienne and Marthe secretly mean to Daniel and Bouly not to reveal anything. Both also secretly agree.
