Guy Bedos (2013)

Guy René Bedos (born June 15, 1934 in Algiers , today Algeria , † May 28, 2020 ) was a French actor , cabaret artist and entertainer .

Live and act

Theater, film and television

Bedos, the son of the head of a pharmaceutical laboratory, had attended school in Paris from 1949 and then (from 1951) received his artistic training from Berthe Bovy at the Center d'Art Dramatique in Rue Blanche. In 1954 Jacques Charon brought Bedos to his drama troupe, with whom he then went on tour through the Middle East . Bedos soon made a name for himself as a stand-up comedian, entertainer and cabaret artist at numerous cabaret and variety shows in France. Guy Bedos began filming almost at the same time as his stage work, making his debut at the end of 1954 at the side of Brigitte Bardot and Jean Marais in the dramolet Hoop on young flowers . Despite regular film activity, Guy Bedos remained primarily a man on the stage. In Germany he is mainly thanks to his participation as Simon Messina in the ensemble film comedy An Elephant is mistaken and its sequel We all go to heaven a term. In addition, Bedos has continued to play classical theater, for example in Bertolt Brecht's The Unstoppable Rise of Arturo Ui and has been a popular guest in countless discussion groups and show programs on French television such as Vivement dimanche prochaine (1998-2015) and the offshoot Vivement for decades dimanche (1999-2015).

Political commitment

With his mostly self-written stage programs, Bedos has always interfered in social and political issues in his country. He classified himself as politically left and was considered a great supporter of the socialist President François Mitterrand . Bedos has not always made friends with his public statements. He had to answer in court several times, most recently (as of August 2017) he was sued by the Republican politician Nadine Morano for insulting during one of his stage shows (2013), but was acquitted in the last instance (June 2017).

Private

Guy Bedos was married three times, including the actresses Karen Blanguernon and Sophie Daumier (1934-2003). From these marriages a total of four children were born. Another child was an adopted son who died in 2010. He was buried in Lumio at his own request .
