An elephant is so wrong is a French film by Yves Robert , which was released in 1976. Yves Robert brought out a sequel a year later: We All Go to Heaven .
In 1984 Gene Wilder shot a new edition with the title The Woman in Red .
action
Étienne, a married, loyal and happy family father (married to Marthe) in his forties, falls head over heels in love with Charlotte, a young woman dressed in red whom he has only seen briefly.
He shares a passion for tennis with his three friends Simon, Daniel and Bouly. Simon is a doctor and suffocates under the constant interference of his mother, a caricature of an overmother. Daniel, a car mechanic, does not take long to hide from his friends that he is gay. Bouly, incorrigible seducer of women, falls from the clouds when he discovers that his wife has left the marital apartment with furniture and children.
Although Étienne despises the philanderers, he succumbs to the charm of his beautiful strangers. However, this quickly gives him to understand that this will only be an adventure with no future.
Étienne (Jean Rochefort) largely comments on the film as an off-screen voice , and the contrast between what he presents (always to his advantage, of course) and what you actually see is one of the mainspring of the comedy of this film.
Reviews
"Melancholic comedy enriched with frivolous humor, which portrays the tragicomic" midlife crisis "of its heroes with mildly ironic sympathy."
Movie title
The film title alludes to a French children's song Un éléphant ça trompe, ça trompe énormément , from which the film title is borrowed. The song title (and the lyrics) are based on a play on words, because while "ça trompe" means deceiving , the homophonic (same-sounding) "sa trompe" could be translated as his trunk .
The German translation of the film title An elephant is tremendously wrong is therefore not correct, it should actually be called an elephant deceives powerful .
