action

The family man, Teddy Pierce, is a middle manager in public transportation marketing in San Francisco and leads a thoroughly regular life. One day when he sees the highly attractive Charlotte dressed in red in the underground car park, he is fascinated by her at first sight. After a meaningless exchange of words in the elevator and a brief power failure in the stairwell, she has disappeared again. It turns out that Charlotte works as a photo model . Pierce sees posters with her picture in many places.

When he sees her again near his office, he asks her to meet him. Charlotte initially refuses and wants to leave in her car. Only when Pierce throws himself on the hood of her car does she finally agree.

Teddy is waiting for Charlotte in the restaurant when she receives a call. She has business in Los Angeles and asks him to come. Pierce fakes a professional appointment that has suddenly appeared for his wife. He flies to Los Angeles, but his plane is diverted to San Diego due to bad weather .

Teddy and Charlotte meet again, Teddy's friend Buddy drives them in a car. On the way, they want to briefly visit an old relative of Teddy. Once there, they find out that Teddy's family is holding a surprise birthday party at which Teddy's wife is present. To save the embarrassing situation, Buddy pretends that he and Charlotte, not Teddy, have come.

One of Teddy's friends fakes a nervous breakdown so Teddy can leave the party. Finally, Teddy ends up in Charlotte's water bed. However, it turns out that Charlotte is married, her husband rings the doorbell. Teddy has to hide on the cornice of the tall apartment building while Charlotte and her husband have sex.

Pierce is discovered by passers-by on the cornice. They think he is a suicide and call the fire department . The press and a television crew arrive, Teddy's wife sees her husband on TV. The firefighters tighten a tarpaulin for Teddy to jump onto. He regrets the affair and realizes that he is actually happy in the marriage. When he jumps, however, he notices that a newspaper reporter waiting in the crowd is pretty.

Reviews

Janet Maslin wrote in the New York Times on August 15, 1984 that Gene Wilder managed to make people like the character he was playing. However, his “ingenuity” is put to the test in some scenes.

"A cheerful new version of the frivolous French comedy" An elephant is hugely mistaken "by Yves Robert; a multitude of comic ideas makes for a comparatively respectable entertainment. "

"The remake of the French hit" An Elephant Is Big Mistakes "brought Stevie Wonder the Oscar for his song" I Just Called To Say I Love You ". Kelly LeBrock married Steven Seagal three years later. Conclusion: harmless 80s fun with some good gags. "

Awards

Stevie Wonder won in 1985 for the song I Just Called to Say I Love You to Oscar and the Golden Globe Award ; he was nominated for the BAFTA Award .

background

The film was shot in San Francisco . It grossed approximately $ 25.3 million in US cinemas . The scene in which Charlotte stands on the ventilation shaft is seen as an homage to the movie The Itchy Seventh Year with Marilyn Monroe .
