I Just Called to Say I Love You is a 1984 song by Stevie Wonder , written and produced by Wonder, and used on the soundtrack for The Woman in Red .

history

I Just Called to Say I Love You was released worldwide on September 12, 1984 and reached number one in the charts in many countries. In Germany , the hit stayed in the top position for six weeks (from September 28 to November 8, 1984). At the 1985 Academy Awards , the song won the Music category (Original Song).

After its release, Wonder was sued by former manager Lee Garrett on copyright lawsuits because Garrett claimed he wrote the song. However, the lawsuit was later withdrawn.

Filmography

In the television series Die Bill Cosby Show , Stevie Wonder sings the song as a duet with Phylicia Rashād (as Claire Olivia Huxtable), whose voice was also heard in the German dubbed version. In the end, almost the whole family sings along.

In the fourth season of the TV series Stromberg , the song plays a decisive role in the fifth episode.
