Me First and the Gimme Gimmes is an American punk rock - cover band that was founded in the 1995th They are known for covering music from classic pop bands and turning it into a punk rock version. The preferred era of the songs is music from the 1960s and 1970s. Since all members play in other well-known bands, "Me First and the Gimme Gimmes" is called a supergroup .

history

The band was founded by Spike Slawson (bassist with the Swingin 'Utters ), along with NOFX singer and bassist Fat Mike , Chris Shiflett from the Foo Fighters (then with No Use for a Name ) and Joey Cape and Dave Raun from Lagwagon . No album was originally planned, so they only appeared on samplers in their first year. In 1997 they started releasing singles and their first album Have a Ball . Her second album Are a Drag was dedicated to classics from the musical field , which, however, were mostly unknown in the punk scene and therefore not so well received. The follow-up Blowin 'in the Wind was dedicated to well-known songs from the 60s and the fourth album Take a Break was limited to songs from the R&B area . Their fifth album is entitled Ruin Jonny's Bar Mitzvah and is a live recording of the Bar Mitzvah by a certain Jonny Wixen. However, there are only unreleased songs on the album. In October 2006 the album Love Their Country was released , the v. a. Contains country and western songs. Another album called Have another Ball , which was released in July 2008, contains the B-side of the recording for the first album Have a Ball and is musically similar to this album. In May 2014 the new album Are we not men? We are diva! , on which the band only covers songs by pop divas .

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are at Fat Wreck Chords from San Francisco , the label of Fat Mike , under contract.

Since all musicians are active in other well-known punk and rock bands, live performances with the original line-up are rare. Mostly, however, members of other well-known bands step in for individual members. For example, since 2014 Fat Mike has been regularly represented by Jay Bentley, bassist with Bad Religion , or CJ Ramone from the Ramones .
