Joey Cape (2014)

Joey Cape (* 16th November 1966 in Santa Barbara , California as Randal Joseph Cape ) is the lead singer of American punk bands Lagwagon , Bad Astronaut and Afterburner, the guitarist of the group Me First and the Gimme Gimmes , the guitarist and singer of the Band The Playing Favorites as well as active as a solo artist.

Bad Astronauts will no longer exist after the suicide of drummer Derrick Plourde, according to Joey Cape. On November 14, 2006, the third and final studio work entitled Twelve Small Steps, One Giant Disappointment was released, most of which had been recorded before Plourdes death. Due to the friendly relationship between Capes and Plourdes, however, the singer no longer sees any reason to continue the project and would like to close the chapter Bad Astronaut with this last album.

Furthermore, Cape's musical work includes a split CD with Tony Sly , the front man of No Use for a Name , on which each of the two singers reinterprets five songs by the respective band. In addition, however, both have also recorded a new song. Joey Capes' previously unreleased song is called Violet and was originally intended as a marriage proposal to his wife. The singer rejected this idea, however, because the idea of proposing marriage with a song seemed too corny and pathetic.

On the sampler Protect , which was released on Fat Wreck Chords , you can also find a previously unreleased song by Joey Cape called Minus .

In 2000, Cape founded its own label , MyRecords , which turned out to be unprofitable and was dissolved in 2004.

In 2006, Cape founded the Bad Astronaut successor band Afterburner together with Todd Capps .

Since 2007 he has been a member of the indie rock band The Playing Favorites.

In 2008 he released his first solo album. Bridge is stylistically close to the solo project that Cape recorded with Tony Sly, but it does not contain any cover versions of Lagwagon songs. Conversely, Lagwagon released some of Bridge's songs on the EP I think my older brother used to listen to Lagwagon .

In May 2011, he announced that he had formed a new band called Joey Cape's Bad Loud and had recorded an album that mainly included songs from his two solo albums.

Joey Cape is married and has one daughter. He lives in Fresno .
