Fred Schuler

Fred Schuler (born March 15, 1940 in Munich ) is a German cameraman .

Life

Schuler came to the United States at the age of 22 and was involved in the development of film cameras from 1959 to 1967. He then worked as a camera assistant and as a camera operator from 1972, especially in his new hometown of New York, in several important productions such as Taxi Driver , Jaws , Der Stadtneurotiker (Annie Hall) , Manhattan and Deer Hunter . At that time he was considered a specialist in outdoor shots, for example of big city streets.

In 1979 Schuler worked for John Cassavetes ' Gloria, the gangster bride, for the first time as chief cameraman. In 1995 he returned to Germany to shoot the film Der Totmacher . Since then he has been filming mainly in Germany, including several times for director Romuald Karmakar , and occasionally works here for television.
