Joseph Bologna (born December 30, 1934 in New York City - † August 13, 2017 in Duarte , California ) was an American actor of Italian descent. Bologna appeared in numerous TV series and film productions as a supporting actor and worked as a screenwriter , director and producer .

Life

He was born in Brooklyn in 1934 to Italian immigrants and studied at Brown University. Here he made his first theater experiences in the play Stalag 17 . Following his lead role in this play, he did not work as an actor for ten years. He graduated with a degree in art history and then joined the US Marine Corps. In 1965 he married the actress Renée Taylor , who later became known internationally as the mother in the television series The Nanny . The two had a son, Gabriel Bologna, who also works as an actor.

After his wedding, Bologna wrote the Broadway hit Lovers and other strangers with his wife , for which they also wrote the script together. With her he also wrote numerous other scripts and often worked as an actor in his films.

In 1991 he co-starred with Matt LeBlanc in the Top of the Heap series , a spin-off from the hit series A Terribly Nice Family . Bologna plays the unemployed Charlie Verducci who, together with his son Vinnie, tries to make money in more or less legal ways. However, the series was canceled after a short time because it could not follow the success of the terribly nice family .

Bologna was awarded an Emmy in 1973 for Acts of Love and Other Comedies .

On August 13, 2017, Bologna died of pancreatic cancer in California at the age of 82 .
