Everwood is an American television series produced by Warner Bros. Television from 2002 to 2006 for the television network The WB .
Everwood received two Emmy nominations: Main Title Theme (2003) composed by Blake Neely and Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series (2004) for James Earl Jones ' role as Will Cleveland. Treat Williams also received two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations (2003 and 2004) for his role as Dr. Andy Brown.
After the two television networks The WB and UPN announced their merger to form the new network The CW in early 2006 , Everwood's future was considered uncertain. The CW announced its fall schedule on May 18, 2006, according to which Everwood had not been renewed and thus did not return to the new network for a fifth season.
action
season 1
The neurosurgeon Dr. Andrew “Andy” Brown moves with his children, 15-year-old Ephram and 9-year-old Delia, after the death of his wife from New York to Everwood, a fictional small town in Colorado .
Here he is celebrated as a celebrity, as his name is known in the USA and he has already saved the lives of many people in sometimes spectacular operations.
Nevertheless, the widower has to deal with many problems. His son Ephram rebels against him because in the past he never really looked after his family, but always gave priority to work.
Andy is also facing new challenges professionally. He - who has made a lot of money in the past - opens a practice, charges no fee from the patients and thus arouses the annoyance of the only doctor in Everwood so far, Dr. Harold Abbott.
Ephram, on the other hand, falls in love with Amy Abbott, who is the same age, but soon finds out that she is dating Colin Hart, a boy who has been in a coma for several months .
Over time, the Browns get used to their new home. Andy develops a warm friendship with his neighbor Nina. Her husband is only with Nina and their little son for a few weeks a year, but keeps disappearing and soon leaves Nina in despair. When he finally returns and promises to stay forever, Nina is initially very happy. This changes when she finds out her husband is having an affair with a man and she finally breaks up with him. It is still unclear whether more than friendship will develop between her and Andy.
The initially difficult relationship with Dr. Abbott, who saw Andy as an intruder in his turf, kept getting better and better, until they finally got along well - even if Abbott couldn't do without small cynical comments.
Little by little, a tender romance develops between Ephram and Amy, until, through an operation by Andy, Colin wakes up from his coma. Amy puts all her energy back into Colin, even when Colin cannot remember her at first. Soon, however, Colin, whose personality has changed, falls in love with Amy. The rejected Ephram throws himself more and more into his piano playing (later he will apply for a renowned music college) and into a liaison with Colin's sister, who ends it when she realizes that Ephram is still in love with Amy.
But Colin is not doing as well as it seems and serious complications soon arise. He has to undergo a very risky operation that Andy wants to perform. Serious complications arise during the operation and Colin dies.
season 2
Amy falls into depression over the death of her boyfriend. She leaves home and starts a relationship with boy Tommy, but ends it after Tommy overdoses on a party drug.
Andy also struggles with self-reproach after Colin's death, but the situation is gradually improving.
Dr. Abbott's sister Linda, a specialist in Far Eastern medicine, returns to Everwood after years of absence working for MSF . She and Andy get along very well, but Delia is extremely dismissive of Linda. A relationship develops between Linda and Andy, but it doesn't last long. Linda returns to Africa after news of HIV infection in Everwood.
Ephram meets up with Delia's babysitter Madison Kellner . However, Madison ends their relationship because of the too great age difference. However, she soon comes back - pregnant, which Ephram will only find out towards the end of season 3, as Madison first tells Andy and he leads her to say nothing to Ephram and to leave Everwood.
Amy finally gets together with Ephram at the end of the season, and even accompanies him to New York, where he takes part in a summer seminar at the Juilliard School .
season 3
Ephram and Amy are happy, but split up towards the end of the season. This is because Ephram found out about the pregnancy when he happened to meet Madison again in New York. Since Ephram's father did not tell him about it and sent Madison away, Amy also knew about it, but did not tell him so that Ephram passed the entrance exam at the Juilliard School, Ephram makes his own way to Europe at the end of the season.
Andy falls in love with Nina, who first meets Jake and eventually shares an apartment with him.
Amy's mother Rose learns by accident that she has cancer. Amy then decides to stay in Everwood for another year and stand by her mother's side. After Rose's request, Andy decides to operate on her, initially successfully.
Bright loses his job in the restaurant because of an incident with a girl in the closet, and his mother tries to help him and gets him a job. It doesn't take long, however, and he loses this too because of an employee who accuses him of sexual harassment. As a result, his mother's collar bursts and Bright tries to improve. Nina receives a visit from her niece Hannah, whose father is terminally ill. Hannah's mother doesn't want her to experience her father like this. Hannah soon falls in love with Bright, but he doesn't reciprocate her feelings. After a while she finds a friend, but doubts the relationship and breaks up with him. Amy learns from Bright that he has fallen in love with Hannah. During the summer vacation, Hannah flies to her parents. Bright kisses Hannah as she parted.
Season 4
Ephram comes back to Everwood and makes up with his father. Bright meets Hannah, but he cheats on her. Ephram still loves Amy, but she doesn't want to know anything about him.
At the end of the season, Nina leaves Jake again and chooses Andy, who has already bought her an engagement ring. She accepts Andy's marriage proposal. Hannah forgives Bright for his misstep but does not start a new relationship with him. The newly minted author Irv dies of his second heart attack. His widow Edna, Dr. Abbott's mother, considering leaving Everwood, ultimately moves into her son's house.
The season, and with it the series, ends with Amy and Ephram reuniting, when they both realize that they are still in love. The DVD release contains an alternate season finale: There is no happy ending for Amy and Ephram. Because Madison, Ephram's ex-girlfriend, has turned up unexpectedly in Everwood and speaks to him on the answering machine. He hears the message, wants to ignore it at first, but then turns back and calls Madison back. Amy waits in vain for him in front of the house.
