Gregory Smith (actually: Gregory Edward Smith ; born July 6, 1983 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian - American actor and television director . He became known through the television series Everwood . From 2010 to 2015 he was in the Canadian television series Rookie Blue .

Life

Gregory Smith, who has dual citizenship from Canada and the United States, grew up as the eldest of four children of film producer Maurice Smith and his wife Terrea. His younger brother Douglas Smith is also an actor. At 14 months, Gregory Smith was in front of the camera for various commercials. At the age of eight, he received his first film role in 1991 as a guest actor on the television series Street Justice .

At the age of 15 he worked in the film Small Soldiers by Joe Dante with Kirsten Dunst as a film partner. Two years later he played the role of Thomas Martin in Roland Emmerich's The Patriot, alongside Mel Gibson , Heath Ledger , Jason Isaacs and Joely Richardson .

From 2002 to 2006 he played one of the leading roles in the television series Everwood , with which he became a teenage idol in America. He has received several awards for the role, including a Young Artist Award in 2003 . From 2010 to 2015, Smith starred as Dov Epstein on the Canadian television series Rookie Blue . In 2012 he directed an episode of the series for the first time.

Gregory Smith has been married to Canadian actress Taylor McKay since August 18, 2018.
