Jason Isaacs (born June 6, 1963 in Liverpool , England ) is a British actor .

Life

Jason Isaacs comes from an Eastern European Jewish family; his parents now live in Israel . He has two older and one younger brother. The first years he grew up in a Jewish environment in Liverpool. When he was eleven, the family moved to north-west London where he attended a school specially designed for boys. In addition, Isaacs and his friends were increasingly exposed to hostility from right-wing extremists on the British National Front in the 1970s and 1980s . According to his own statements, he did not particularly like his childhood, which is also one of the reasons why he prefers to play villainous characters as an actor. Isaacs later studied law at Bristol University. Here he directed the productions of a number of stage plays in which he also participated as an actor. He graduated from the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

He had his first small role in the film The Long Misery from 1989. He was then engaged for a longer period of time for the British television series Capital City and also took part in various other British television series. In 1997 he appeared in Event Horizon for the first time in a Hollywood film. A year later he appeared in the blockbuster Armageddon as a NASA scientist. In 2000 he played the role of the brutal Colonel Tavington , the opponent of leading actor Mel Gibson, in Roland Emmerich's Der Patriot . Since 2017 he has played the role of Cpt. Lorca in the science fiction series Star Trek: Discovery , for which he received an Empire Award in the category "Best Actor in a TV Series" in 2018 .

Among his best-known roles are that of Lucius Malfoy , which he has played in all subsequent parts of the film series since Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), as well as that of Captain Hook from the 2003 remake of Peter Pan . In 2006, Isaacs played on the BBC -Miniseries Die Schattenmacht - The State Within , for which he received a Golden Globe Award nomination. In the American series Brotherhood , he also played the lead role in the same year. He was already active as a theater actor in 1992 and appeared in several stage plays at London's Royal National Theater , in which he always embodied a homosexual, Jewish character. Since 2007 he has been working again increasingly in the theater industry and played together with comedian Lee Evans in a play called The Dumb Waiter at Trafalgar Studios in London.

Isaacs has been dating the BBC documentary filmmaker Emma Hewitt since 1988 . The two married in 2001 and have two daughters.

Dubbing voice

In the German-speaking area, his voice was dubbed several times by Hubertus Bengsch , Tom Vogt and Wolfgang Müller (especially in the Harry Potter films).
