Dr. Bennett gives him the address of his father's apartment and asks him to wait there for him. While Nathan and Karen are on the run from the CIA , they slowly get closer.
Eventually Nathan learns what the reason for his persecution is. His father stole a list of nationals who had been selling secrets from the dangerous arms dealer Kozlow. To get this list back, Kozlow wants to use Nathan as leverage. But after Nathan learns that the CIA agent Burton is also on this list, he finds the list on his father's cell phone, which he took from his apartment. Shortly thereafter, Kozlow calls and blackmailed Nathan that he would kill Karen's parents if he didn't give him the list. Nathan forcibly locates a hangout at a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game at PNC Park with the ulterior motive of shooting Kozlow there. The plan goes wrong and when Kozlow points a gun at Nathan that was placed there for him by Nathan's friend Gilly, Nathan escapes. Shortly thereafter, he receives a call from his father asking him to lure Kozlow to the parking lot south of the stadium. When Nathan and Kozlow reach the said parking lot, Nathan's father shoots Kozlow with a sniper rifle from a nearby parking garage. On the phone, he tells his son that they should not continue to meet personally, otherwise their lives would be threatened. reception
The film was received very negatively by the critics. On the English-language website Rotten Tomatoes , only 5% of the recorded reviews are positive.
Breathless - Dangerous Truth is, in the opinion of the Lexicon of International Films, “an action film that is primarily interested in genre set pieces that does not place much value on the unsettling psychology of its main character. Above all, it seems to be intended as a vehicle for building up the young lead actor as a romantic action hero. "
Christoph Petersen von Filmstarts states that Lautner recommends himself "as an upcoming action hero" in the agent thriller, because "in fact, he makes an appealing figure in the fast-paced passages". Although he is a “decent action performer” and “actually did most of his stunts himself”, “outside of the action scenes there are even bigger problems,” continues Petersen's judgment. Here Lautner “still seems very wooden”, which is partly due to the “weak script by Shawn Christensen”, because “even the numerous established supporting actors hardly manage to set lasting accents” and “create a believable or at least catchy character ". Instead, their line-up appears “interchangeable”. On closer inspection, the "outrageous agent story" collapses "like a crooked house of cards". Petersen sums it up: "As a star vehicle," Breathless - Dangerous Truth "is fully tailored to make main actor Taylor Lautner look as advantageous as possible, but a little more effort should have been made with the confused story." Petersen gave two overall ratings out of five possible stars.
The editorial team of Cinema is of the opinion, "Lautner is convincing as an action hero of a new generation [...] in his first leading role" and "does his job amazingly well". "In some scenes the 19-year-old with his stoic facial expression and his angular gait looks like a comic figure brought to life, but in the numerous fight scenes his physical presence is unmistakably reminiscent of the young Tom Cruise ". “His talent as a storyteller has” director John Singleton, who shot “challenging dramas like“ Boyz 'n the Hood ”” in his early creative phase , before turning to action films like 2 Fast 2 Furious or Four Brothers , “but not with this film lost. ”“ The fast-paced plot is so cleverly constructed that the viewer never loses the overview. ”The“ prominent supporting roles ”, including Alfred Molina , Sigourney Weaver , Maria Bello and Michael Nyqvist ,“ guarantee quality in themselves ". The film is "classic and modern at the same time: an energetic, coherently narrated action thriller that connects generations". As an overall rating, the editors awarded the second best of five possible ratings.
