biography

Agyeman's mother is Iranian and her father is from Ghana . She grew up with her two siblings in a social housing estate in the London Borough of Hackney and attended the Catholic comprehensive school Our Lady's Convent . In 1996 Agyeman took theater courses at the Anna Scher Theater School in Islington and in the summer of 1998 at Radford University in Virginia . After high school she studied performing arts and drama at Middlesex University , where she graduated in 2000.

At the beginning of her acting career, Agyeman only had minor supporting and guest roles in various television series and films from 2003 to 2006. So she earned her living in a local video store. Because of her modest success, Agyeman considered turning her back on acting.

In July 2006 it was announced that Agyeman from the third season of Doctor Who as Dr. Martha Jones will play along, replacing Billie Piper as the doctor's companion. Agyeman previously had a guest role in the Doctor Who episode Army of Ghosts (episode 2.12), during the filming of which series maker Russell T Davies became aware of her. The better known Michelle Ryan , who also auditioned for a role as the new companion, was eliminated. In 2007, Agyeman played Martha Jones for the entire third season and returned in 2008 for five episodes in the fourth season. She played the same role in 2008 in the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood in three episodes of the second season.

With the success came new roles in other productions, for example for Little Dorrit , the new edition of Survivors and the moderation for several editions of the docu-soap Bizarre ER . From the beginning of 2009 Agyeman was seen as a young litigator in the ITV series Law & Order: UK , a spin-off of the American original Law & Order .

In the 2013 television series The Carrie Diaries on US broadcaster The CW , Agyeman plays as Larissa Loughton . The series is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name as well as the prequel for the television series Sex and the City and tells the story of the young Carrie Bradshaw , played by AnnaSophia Robb .
