When a tender bond develops between the two, she faces her worst competitor, Donna LaDonna. After Carrie has had some unpleasant experiences, she comes to the conclusion that Donna LaDonna is behind it. During this time, her relationship with Sebastian and her envious best friend Lali falls apart. Carrie helps her friends Walt and Maggie clear up their problems, thereby displacing her own. Sebastian and Lali soon leave Carrie behind, but she finds a way to forgive them. She befriends Donna LaDonna after taking a photography course. When she learns of Carrie's plans to move to New York , she gives her the number of her “cool cousin” who lives there. In the end, it's summer and Carrie is going to New York after she was finally given a place in the writers' college. When she arrives, she loses her money, which is why she has no way of moving through town, which in turn leads her to report to Donna's cousin, who is none other than Samantha Jones .

However, Carrie thinks Donna is the culprit. When Lali discovers that Carrie and Sebastian are having problems, she takes advantage of it.

It is later revealed that Walt is gay and meets a former quarterback , 20-year-old Randy Sanders.
  • Maggie: Maggie is Walt's very sexually active (ex) girlfriend and one of Carrie's best friends. She suffers from very low self-esteem, she sees herself as fat and ugly, despite Carrie's statement that the boys have been after her since she was 13. Roberta is very trustworthy and Carrie's father especially likes her.

Minor characters

  • George Carter: He's Carrie's handsome suitor from New York City and a former Brown University student. George is very devoted to Carrie and supports her in her endeavor to become a writer. Carrie sees George as just a boyfriend, but her father insists that she marry a man like him. While on a ski trip, Carrie finds out that George is friends with Sebastian's older sister, Amelia. Through her, George learns that Carrie is in a relationship with Sebastian, which breaks his heart. He warns Carrie that Sebastian is not who he claims to be. Carrie rejects this idea, but despite everything, George continues to support her, up to the point where he introduces her to his aunt, the writer, Mary Gordon Howard, also called "The Gorgon" by Carrie.
  • Peter Arnold: Peter is described by Carrie as "the second smartest boy in our class and a total idiot". He is the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper "The Nutmeg", for which Carrie later also writes. After Walt and Maggie split up, Peter starts a relationship with her, but later leaves for Jen P, a friend of Donna LaDonna's.
  • Dorrit and Missy: Carrie's younger sisters. Missy is the more well-mannered of the two, while Dorrit rebels for much of the book. Carrie's relationship with Missy is better, especially after Dorrit started stealing things from her sisters and accused Carrie of having loved her more than her sisters.
