The Carrie Diaries is an American youth series based on the book series of the same name by the author Candace Bushnell . It is a prequel to the television series Sex and the City , which aired on HBO from 1998 to 2004 . The series features Carrie Bradshaw in the early 1980s during her senior high school year and early New York writing. It consists of two seasons and 26 episodes. It first aired in the US on January 14, 2013 on The CW .

action

Before Sex and the City , Carrie Bradshaw was a small town girl who knew she wanted to be one more time. But before she can tackle that, she has to get through her senior year of high school . Until now, Carrie and her friends have always been inseparable. But then Sebastian Kydd steps on the scene and cheating on a friend makes her question everything.

production

In September 2011, the broadcaster The CW announced its plan to adapt the book series The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell into a television series . The Gossip Girl -Produzenten Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will carry out the project and the Sex and the City -Drehbuchautorin Amy Harris will support the project creatively. After the station announced the production of a pilot episode in January 2012 , it gave the green light in May 2012 and ordered 13 episodes for the first season.

In early May 2013, The CW announced the production of a second season of 13 episodes. The hiring followed exactly one year later, on May 8, 2014.

Casting

First, actress Stefania Owen , who was still unknown at the time , was cast as Dorrit Bradshaw, Carrie's rebellious little sister. After months of speculation, the lead role of Carrie Bradshaw was awarded to AnnaSophia Robb on February 27, 2012 . Katie Findlay as Maggie Landers and Ellen Wong as Jill Thompson also joined the project on the same day . The male lead went to Austin Butler in early March 2012 . Later in the month, Freema Agyeman as Carrie's mentor Larissa Loughton, Brendan Dooling as Walt Reynolds, Matt Letscher as Carries and Dorrit's father Tom Bradshaw and Chloe Bridges as Donna LaDonna were recruited.

In July 2013, Lindsey Gort was signed for the second season. She plays the role of Samantha Jones .

Filming

Filming for the serial pilot began in New York City in late March 2012 . Production of the remaining episodes began in the summer of 2012.

reception

“Besides the few basic similarities between the old and the new Carrie, such as the importance of friendship, the fun of the exciting life in Manhattan and the love of writing,“ The Carrie Diaries ”is simply a series for young people. The previous audience of “Sex and the City” is certainly not the target group of the “Carrie Diaries” but perhaps their younger sisters and daughters who simply accept “The Carrie Diaries” as a new series about a young girl in a long-forgotten stylistic era and learn to love.
