history

In 1934, the Fukuoka Higher Commercial School ( 福岡 高等 商業 学校 , Fukuoka kōtō shōgyō gakkō ) was founded by Umetaro Mizoguchi, a professor at the Seinan-Gakuin . This was the fifth oldest commercial college on the island of Kyūshū after Nagasaki (1905), Ōita (1921), Seinan-Gakuin (1921) and Kagoshima (1932). It was merged in 1944 with the Kyūshū technical school (in Tobata ) to form the Kyūshū business school ( 九州 経 済 専 門 学校 , Kyūshū keizai semmon gakkō ). In 1946 it was renamed Fukuoka Business School.

In 1949 the business school was merged with the Fukuoka Foreign Studies School to form the Fukuoka University of Commerce ( 福岡 商科 大学 , Fukuoka shōka daigaku ). It was only opened with the commercial science faculty. In 1956, it added the Faculty of Law and Economics and renamed itself to Fukuoka University. Over the years, she founded more faculties: Pharmacy (1960), Engineering (1962), Humanities (1969), Sports Science (1969), Natural Sciences (1970), and Medicine (1972). Masters courses have been offered since 1965 and doctoral courses since 1967.
