The Seinan Gakuin University ( Japanese 西南 学院 大学 , Seinan gakuin daigaku , short: SGU) is a private university in Japan . It is located in Sawara-ku , Fukuoka in Fukuoka Prefecture .

Seinan Gakuin Elementary School

history

The school was founded in 1916 by Charles Kelsey Dozier (1879-1933), a Southern Baptist Convention missionary , as a boys' middle school. The school name at that time was Shiritsu Seinan Gakuin ( 私立 西南 学院 , dt. "Private Seinan Academy"); Seinan denotes southwest (-Japan). In 1918 she moved to today's campus. In 1921 the four-year technical school department was established with two courses: literature and business studies. During the Pacific War , the American Christian school had a hard time; The missionaries returned to America in 1941 and the technical school department was renamed the Seinan Gakuin Business School in 1944 because the English literature course was closed.

After the war, the school was renamed the Seinan-Gakuin-Fachschule in 1946 and in 1949 it developed into the co-educational Seinan-Gakuin University with a faculty ( Liberal Arts ). The faculty was divided into two faculties in 1954: literature and business studies. Over the years the university has added the following faculties: Economics (1964), Theology (1966), Law (1967), Human Sciences (2005), and Intercultural Studies (2006).

The university runs a small museum. There is also an attached elementary, middle and high school in the immediate vicinity.
