Gossip Girl is an American youth series which was shown on the network The CW from September 19, 2007 to December 17, 2012 and is based on the book series of the same name by the author Cecily von Ziegesar . The sixth season was broadcast in the German-speaking countries in 2013.

The actions, as well as the characters in the series, are based on the book series, but many aspects of the book series, particularly sexual escapades and drug abuse, have been changed. Many of the characters appearing in the book series have also been changed, mostly for the better. So the entire Humphrey family was portrayed in a more personable way.

A sequel with Kristen Bell as Gossip Girl narrator is currently being planned. However, there is no start date yet.

action

The series is about the youth of the leading actors on the Upper East Side of New York and their surroundings. All of her actions, mistakes, and rumors about her are reported and commented on by the anonymous New York blogger Gossip Girl. It is about conflicts between parents and their children, between rich and less rich and about topics like friendship, intrigue, love, jealousy, depression, alcohol and other drugs. Serena van der Woodsen takes center stage as the main character, especially when she comes back from boarding school at the beginning of the series and causes chaos. Now the world of the rich Upper East Sider is turned upside down and her best friend Blair Waldorf, known for intrigue and malicious pranks, doesn't like it at all. There would be no public humiliations from the Non Judging Breakfast Club - made up of Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Nathaniel Archibald and Chuck Bass - if it weren't for Gossip Girl. And Serena's love life changes in an instant when Dan Humphrey, an initially lonely and insignificant boy, sneaks into her heart. But such things do not only happen in the world of young elite students, because on the Upper East Side embarrassment is the middle name of everyone. This leads to surprising family ramifications and inexplicable scandals.

“Where I come from, people are lied to and cheated on and anyone who disturbs is kicked away. I was the best at it. "

- Chuck Bass

season 1

Serena and Blair's friendship is already put to the test in the first episode. Serena unexpectedly returns from Connecticut boarding school after a year . She had suddenly left there without saying goodbye. The reason for Serena's return is the suicide attempt of her little brother Eric, who is treated at the beginning of the story in the Ostroff Center. The friendship is further strained when Blair learns the reason for Serena's rash behavior, Serena had slept with Blair's friend Nate.

Dan, the "lonely boy" as Gossip Girl calls him, has been in love with Serena van der Woodsen for years. When Serena loses her phone at the beginning of season one, he brings it back to her and the two get to know each other. After several dates, the two become a couple.

Nate and Blair split up because Nate has feelings for Serena. After breaking up with Nate, Blair has an affair with Chuck Bass, a billionaire son of the Upper East Side, to whom Blair loses her innocence in a limousine. Chuck wants to fly to Italy with her towards the end of the season, but decides at the last moment because he doesn't want to swap his old life as a playboy for a steady relationship with Blair. In the end, she went alone to Tuscany, seriously disappointed. Meanwhile, Chuck's father, Bart Bass, marries Lily van der Woodsen, Serena's mother. However, there are also references to the connection between Lily and Rufus Humphrey, Dan's father. He is still married, but the marriage is going through a crisis and the two live separately.

Dan's younger sister Jenny wants to be popular like Blair and Serena, which is why she begins to behave badly. Furthermore, Vanessa, a good friend of Dan, comes to New York.

season 2

At the beginning of the second season, Serena and Dan are back together for a short time. Blair brings a new friend from the Hamptons , James. This turns out to be Lord Marcus Beaton, the stepson of Catherine Mason, with whom Nate had an affair and who at the same time has a secret affair with Marcus. Meanwhile, Jenny Humphrey works for Blair's mother in the fashion design industry. There she met Agnes Andrews, a young model, with whom she wanted to design her own clothing line. Since her father is against it and she also falls out with Agnes, she almost loses her family, her school and her home.

Nate falls in love with Jenny, but Dan is against it, and later in the season Jenny becomes intrigued so that Nate doesn't want to have anything to do with her. Vanessa also secretly pockets a letter that Nate wrote to Jenny before it disappeared. In it he reveals his feelings to her. On the day of the Snowflake Ball, Nate and Vanessa get closer and become a couple.

Chuck inherits his father's fortune and a 51% stake in Bass Industries in a fatal car accident . Blair and Chuck still don't really get together, even though Blair admits their love to Chuck and Chuck is clearly interested in a relationship too. Serena travels to Spain with model Poppy Lifton and her boyfriend Gabriel Serrano. After that, it seems as if Serena separates the two and starts a relationship with Gabriel. Meanwhile, Poppy and Gabriel steal money from many people for an alleged investment. Serena wants to get the money back with the help of her old friend Georgina, who has now become good and Christian, and turn Poppy over to the police, but Serena's mother doesn't want her to interfere, so she has Serena arrested for alleged theft.

Dan and Serena are accepted into Yale University , which Blair also wanted to attend. Nevertheless, Serena gives up her place there to study at Brown University, which Dan does not like very much. Ultimately, however, Blair is accepted at Yale University as well. As the season progresses, Serena and Dan find out that their parents are dating and they have a brother together. Because of this, their relationship fails again. Ultimately, Blair, who was turned down by Yale for bad behavior at school, and Dan for lack of money, go to NYU , as do Vanessa and Georgina.

At the beginning of the third season, Serena and Carter Baizen, her new boyfriend shortly thereafter, are looking for her strange father, who will not return until the end of this season. Blair has her first day at NYU , but soon discovers that Georgina is her roommate. Serena has decided not to attend Brown University because it is not ready or determined. Jenny returns to school and takes the position as the new "Queen". Lily returns home to find that things are not what she thought. She's in favor of Serena attending Brown University. Georgina returns to the Upper East Side and needs help from several of her former friends, but no one wants to help her with her problem. Meanwhile, Dorota and Vanya have their first child. Dan discovers that he still has feelings for Serena, but suddenly Georgina appears with a baby bump and claims the baby is from Dan.

Later, with the help of Blair, Chuck tries to open his own hotel. Jenny has to choose between her friendship with Eric and her position as the new "Queen B". However, she is unwilling to give up her social status, after which a dispute arises between her and Eric. Jenny is supported by the drug dealer Damien in her "work" and then begins a relationship with him, which he later ends when he realizes that she is still a virgin and not yet ready for sex. Lily receives a letter from Serena's father in which he reveals the truth about his summer stay with Lily. A short time later, Serena and Trip (Nate's cousin and her new boyfriend) have an accident in which Serena is injured. It turns out that Lily suffered from cancer. Her doctor William, who is also Lily's ex-husband, healed her and fell in love with her. Now he prescribes her the wrong drugs that make her sick again, to be close to her and to separate Lily and Rufus. In the end, however, he is blown and disappears with Serena's help.

Chuck discovers a woman at Bart Bass' grave who could be his mother. Elizabeth Fisher turns out to be Chuck's mother. To prove it, she shows him a photo of her with Chuck as a baby. However, she has fallen in love with Chuck's uncle Jack, who uses her to get hold of Chuck's hotel, which he succeeds in doing. When she realized that Jack didn't love her and what she had done to Chuck, she told him she wasn't his mother to save him even greater pain.

In order to get his hotel back, Chuck exchanges his hotel for Blair: He makes a deal with his uncle Jack: Blair can sleep with him by offering her that Chuck get his hotel back. Blair agrees - not knowing that Chuck endorsed the whole thing. But when Jack tells her about the deal instead of sleeping with Blair, she breaks up with Chuck.

After Chuck tries to reconcile with Blair several times, he gives her an ultimatum. If she doesn't show up at the Empire State Building by seven o'clock in the evening, he'll lock his heart forever and leave her alone. Blair didn't want to go at first, but then decided to come. But since she was late because Dorota had her child, Chuck was already gone. He was at his hotel and when Jenny came to look for Nate they were sleeping together. Blair arrives early in the morning and explains why she was late at the Empire State Building. The two are then briefly back together, and Chuck wants to propose to her, but then Blair finds out about Jenny and breaks up again.

Jenny decides to graduate from her mother in Hudson, and says goodbye at the end of the season.

Chuck goes back to his old habits, but is mugged on the street. While trying to save the engagement ring he was about to give Blair, he is shot in Prague.

Blair discovers that she was admitted to Columbia University because Chuck sent a request for her. Then Serena decides to go to Columbia University for the next course. At the end of the season, Serena flies to Paris with Blair .

Season 4

After Serena and Blair flew to Paris at the end of the third season, the first two episodes of the fourth season also partly take place in Paris. Serena pursues a lot of flirtations there. Chuck creates a new identity as Henry Prince in Paris and meets Eva. However, the relationship breaks up a little later - back in New York - because of a lie from Blair. Blair meets the Prince of Monaco in Paris and leaves him her shoe so he can find her in New York. With the help of Jenny and Vanessa, Serena is drugged. As a result, Serena wakes up the next morning in a strange hotel room and cannot remember anything. She collapses and is in mortal danger. Then she should make a withdrawal in Ostroff. But Dan and Blair soon discover that Juliet was doing this to Serena, and the real reason for it: Serena allegedly had a relationship with Ben Donovan, Juliet's half-brother and Serena's boarding school teacher, who was reported by Lily for allegedly having sex with minors. to keep Serena away from him.

In the meantime, Chuck's company goes bankrupt and has to be sold. The buyer of the company turns out to be an enemy of Chuck's late father. Meanwhile, Chuck meets with Raina, the daughter of the new owner. However, this decides for Nate.

Meanwhile, Lily turns herself in to the police because she can't live with the knowledge that she has taken an innocent man to prison. Meanwhile, Charlie, Serena's, and Eric's cousin come to visit and help Serena uncover Dan and Blair's secret friendship, which sparked an argument between Serena and Blair.

The Bass Industries buyer wanted Blair locked up and let her die in the fire, as did his wife, whose death he blames Bart Bass for. But his daughter Raina gets in the way with Chuck and Nate, and they save Blair. That night, Blair's engagement party takes place, she has a one-night stand with Chuck.

Season 5

The fifth season begins in Los Angeles. Chuck has a new philosophy: he says “yes” to everything. Serena was offered a job as a film assistant in New York. But this job is in Los Angeles. There, Nate begins an affair with an older woman, Diana Payne, who seems to have an ulterior motive. Back in New York, Dan learns that Vanessa has turned in his novel for publication. This is the end of the still unknown author. Dan eventually publishes his book under his name. The novel is based on the Upper East Side elite, including Dan's friends and family. Blair continues planning her wedding to Louis and finds out she is pregnant. The only problem is that she doesn't know if Chuck or Louis is the father. However, Louis' family does not accept Blair.

Serena is upset about the portrayal of her character in Dan's book, but is forced to talk to him because her boss wants the film rights to the book, and she finally gets them - but only for a short time. Nate doesn't believe he and Diana should hide their relationship and kisses Charlie to make Diana jealous, which is why Diana ends up making their relationship public. Also, Ivy's hoax is exposed when the real Charlie Rhodes, Lola, shows up. Later in the season, Lola and Nate begin a relationship.

Meanwhile, Blair wonders if she made the right decision with Louis. When Blair finally realizes that she wants to be with Chuck, the two have a car accident in which Blair loses her child. She makes a pact with God: If he lets Chuck live, she'll marry Louis in return and never have a relationship with Chuck again. Since Chuck survives, Blair is convinced that he cannot be with him and marries Louis. But then Gossip Girl posts a video in which Blair confesses her love to Chuck shortly before the wedding. But the wedding takes place anyway. Blair is happy that Louis forgives her, but he then explains that their relationship will only be a facade for the public. Blair is horrified and escapes with Dan to seek a divorce. But that's not possible, because Blair has signed a contract (which says that she has to be married to Louis for a year before she can get a divorce), and if she wants to get a divorce, she has to pay a dowry, like that is high that her family would go bankrupt. Blair and Dan get together, but they have to keep it a secret or Blair would break the marriage contract. Then one day Blair got the divorce papers; she thinks Georgina managed to persuade the royal family, but in reality Chuck has ransomed her, he doesn't want Blair to know about it, but she finds out through Dan.

In the middle of the season, Georgina Sparks is revealed as Gossip Girl, but not whether she was from the beginning or just recently. In the further course of the season Georgina gives her job as "Gossip Girl" to Serena.

Towards the end of the season, Chuck and Blair meet Bart Bass, who was supposedly dead. He had to fake his death in order not to really be killed by a "business opponent". Diana Payne, posing as Chuck's mother, was helping Bart all along in hiding. Through a plan by Chuck, his father's adversary can be arrested and Bart decides to resume his old position in his company "Bass Industries".

Thanks to Lola and Nate, Gossip Girl Serena can steal the laptop and has her identity back as "Gossip Girl".

Season 6

After Chuck helps his father to get back to New York without any major problems, he again appropriates Bass Industries. Since Bart is back and Lily and Rufus are in a big crisis, Lily chooses him as a husband and annuls the marriage with Rufus. Lily and Chuck also learn about Bart's illegal deals and murders. As a result, Lily fled New York, but returned later. Chuck tries to uncover Bart's dealings and put him in jail.

At the end of the fifth season, Blair told Chuck that she will fight for him now because he has always fought for her. Shortly afterwards in Montecarlo they spend many nights together and promise each other. To be together, Chuck must send his father to jail for his actions and Blair successfully take over her mother's company. Chuck then gave Blair the engagement ring on a chain for Blair's neck as a promise. Through the whole of season six, their fight for their relationship continues.

When Chuck argues with Bart on the roof of a building because he tried to kill Chuck, Bart falls from the roof, but can still hold on to a grating. Meanwhile Blair arrives. However, Bart falls from the roof and dies after Chuck refused to help him. Chuck and Blair then flee in the trunk of Chuck's limousine.

Dan publishes his second book Inside Out in several chapters in Vanity Fair. The penultimate chapter of this book is about Serena and is entitled Bringing down the golden girl . As he writes this chapter, Dan falls in love with Serena again, and she falls in love with him. He then brings his love to the word in a new chapter. He secretly puts this chapter in Serena's suitcase when she wants to move to LA, angry and disappointed. On the flight to LA she finds the chapter and starts reading it. She then returns to New York.

After Bart's death, Ivy Dickens tries to convince William van der Woodsen to come to New York. She had only used this to get back together with Lily. Which he succeeded.

Blair and Chuck are wanted by the police for the death of Bart Bass in the season finale. On their escape, the two meet Jack Bass in a hotel, who advises them to marry so that they don't have to testify against each other. Chuck is against it at first because he doesn't want to force the marriage on Blair, but Blair persuades him to do so, since they had both achieved their goals and she really wants to marry him. Shortly afterwards, Chuck Blair proposes and the two get married in New York. Immediately after the wedding, the two are taken away by the police, but released a short time later, as neither of the two is willing to make a statement and incriminate the other. They don't have to because they are married.

In the meantime, Dan hands the final chapter of his book over to Nate for publication in the NY Spectator , but with instructions not to read it.

The chapter covers Gossip Girl. It explains how it came to be successful. In the end, it turns out that Dan is "Gossip Girl". The reason he created Gossip Girl is because he wanted to be part of high society. After Gossip Girl reported on him, it succeeded. He has become part of the Upper East Side, and so has his sister Jenny, although neither of them belong to the wealthy elite and live in Brooklyn.

There is a time jump in the last minutes of the last episode. It shows life in Manhattan five years later. Nate is successful with the "NY Spectator" and is running for mayor. Chuck and Blair have a child named Henry, Lily is back with Serena's and Eric's father William, Rufus has a new girlfriend (singer Lisa Loeb , who made a guest appearance in the first season) and Jack and Georgina have found each other. Other guests on the scene are Eric and Jenny.

The final scene shows all the main characters in a living room. Serena descends the stairs in a long white and gold wedding dress. You can see that she goes to Dan to marry him.

Characters

main characters

gossip Girl

Gossip Girl is the narrative character of the series. He accompanies each episode with voice-over comments and runs a gossip blog that is read by almost everyone on the Upper East Side . Of course everyone wants to know who Gossip Girl is. Serena also tries to track her down, but is always set up by her. In the fifth season, Georgina Sparks takes over the side of Gossip Girl for a short time. When it becomes too much work for her, she passes the position on to Serena. The real Gossip Girl, who is still unknown, wants to run her own blog again and works with Nate and Lola to steal Serena's laptop and change her password. Nate helps out because he doesn't think it's right for Serena to stay Gossip Girl. At the end of season five, Diana sends Nate a tape that shows Gossip Girl retrieving her laptop. In the picture, Gossip Girl is dressed in black and looks strikingly masculine. Gossip Girl's identity is revealed in the series finale. It is Dan Humphrey who saw this blog as an opportunity to become popular and to belong in the high society.

Serena van der Woodsen

Serena Celia van der Woodsen embodies the It-Girl of the Upper East Side. In contrast to her best friend Blair Waldorf, who can be very malicious, Serena is actually rather nice. She lives with her mother Lily and her younger brother Eric in a suite at the Palace Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

Before she went to boarding school, she was a party girl through and through. She was often drunk and also took drugs, responsibility was a foreign word to her. She even slept with Nate (Blair's friend) and then disappeared without further ado. Serena finally turns up completely unexpectedly after her boarding school. She is still the star of the New York luxury scene, but otherwise completely changed.

Her trademarks are her smile and her long, blonde hair. Serena is helpful, open, cheerful and surprisingly down-to-earth despite her affluence. However, she takes too much lightly, since everything came to her in her early years as if by itself.

In the first two seasons she has an on-off relationship with Dan. She also tries her luck with Aaron, Nate, Collin, Ben and other men. In the season finale, she finally made up her mind and finally married Dan.

Blair Waldorf

Blair Cornelia Waldorf, like her best friend Serena, was born into high society. She is the daughter of a respected businessman and a well-known fashion designer. Ever since she was a child, she felt that she had to live up to expectations.

Blair is used to working out everything in her life for herself. She is incredibly ambitious, responsible, and smart, but also playful and romantic.

Throughout her youth she has been in competition with Serena, who in her eyes always gets everything. Again and again she tries to step out of Serena's shadow. Blair isn't afraid to use dirty tricks either when it comes to getting what she wants. Blair is known for her intrigues.

Still, her plans don't always work out, and she doesn't make it to Yale, for example, but eventually (like Serena) to Columbia. At some point, Blair finally learns that you can't have everything.

At least Blair finds her great love in the end, because after endless ups and downs, she and Chuck Bass finally find each other. Blair's most romantic and meaningful relationships were with Nate Archibald, Louis Grimaldi, Dan Humphrey and Chuck Bass, whom she eventually married in the season finale and with whom she had a son named Henry.

Daniel Humphrey

Daniel "Dan" Humphrey is humorous, charming and very intelligent. He lives in Brooklyn and is very grown up for his age and scores with Serena. He was not born into high society and his parents' bank balance cannot keep up with that of his schoolmates, which is why he is not one of them. Serena likes him anyway or just because he's so normal and natural. They are together once in the first season and twice in the second season. He has a great talent for writing and goes to NYU from season three. Towards the end of the third season, his ex-affair Georgina claims he is the father of their child, but this turns out to be a lie at the beginning of the fourth season. He befriends Charlie Rhodes and the two begin to meet, which Dan interrupts because she copies Serena. Vanessa hands "Inside", the book that Dan has been writing for 5 years, to a publisher, which, after Dan's long reluctance, finally publishes it. This causes a lot of turmoil among his friends, and they turn more and more away from him. After a lot of quarrels, Dan Serena ends his friendship and now wants to write a book about the actual "Upper East Side" - with the help of Georgina. In the final chapter of his second book, Dan reveals that he is Gossip Girl. He has a relationship with Blair in season 5. In the 6th season he gets back together with Serena and even marries her in the final episode.

Nathaniel Archibald

Nathaniel "Nate" Archibald suffers a lot from his father at the beginning, because he wants to rule over his life. Later, his father is jailed for fraud, leaving Nate impoverished and homeless at times. In the first season he is with Blair and later, after the breakup, occasionally with Vanessa.

After further relationships with Jenny and Serena, he spends a summer with a number of prostitutes. During that summer, he meets Juliet Sharp and the two get together, but the relationship falls apart because of their secrets from Nate. As it progresses, he becomes part of Juliet's plan for revenge against Serena.

In the 5th season, Nate has an affair with the media entrepreneur Diana Payne, who also runs the "Spectator". She wants to harm Gossip Girl with the help of him. When she has to leave the Spectator after corruption by Nate's grandfather, Nate takes over the management. While catering for Blair's wedding reception, he met the real Charlotte Rhodes ("Lola") by chance. He starts a relationship with her, but Diana shows up again, which causes problems. Ultimately, he separates from Lola. He starts an affair with Diana again to find out if she really is, as she claims, Chuck's mother. But he finds out that it is not her, but Elizabeth who sent him a photo of herself as evidence when she was pregnant. After the time jump of the last episode, Nate is the youngest candidate for New York mayor's office.

Chuck Bass

Charles Bartholomew "Chuck" Bass is the heir to "Bass Industries". At first he presents himself as an egoist. He doesn't seem to have any problem beating down or manipulating others. For him women seem to be just objects that can be used or bought. He is trying to get the attention of his father, who is cold, disinterested and strict with him. As the series progresses, it becomes more and more apparent that Chuck has feelings for Blair, which ultimately - after a long back and forth - leads to a relationship between the two. His father marries Lily Van Der Woodsen, Serena's mother. So Serena and Eric are now his step-siblings. In the second season, Chuck goes through a change in character, brought about by the death of his father, Bart Bass, but above all by the affection he feels for Blair. Lily adopts him and now he really belongs to her family. In the season finale of the second season, he and Blair finally get together, but this relationship breaks up again. From then on he tries to win her back by all means.

At the end of the third season he is shot because he is defending himself against two crooks in Prague who are trying to steal the diamond ring he bought for Blair. He is found by a woman named Eva Coupeau who takes care of him. They fall in love and move to Paris while he tries to adopt a new identity as a European citizen. However, this fails because of Serena and Lily, as they find him in Paris with the help of Blair. Chuck returns to New York City at Blair's request - with Eva. Blair's jealousy and lies to Eva ruin Chuck and Eva's relationship, which is going back to Paris. Blair and Chuck later reconcile and meet again for a short time. After the relationship, Chuck focuses on his work. He realizes that Blair is his great love and tries to win her back while she is engaged to Louis, but after she wants him back too, he realizes that Prince Louis can offer her an (emotionally) better life and lets her go. Then he plunges into a very deep phase of depression and numbness. In the middle of season 4, he also has a brief relationship with Raina Thorpe.

When they find each other again later, they have a serious car accident. Both survive this, however. But then Blair breaks up with him. Through Lola, Chuck learns that Diana Payne is his birth mother, which later turns out to be misinformation. Elizabeth is his real mother. Through Diana's notebook, Chuck and the others reach a brothel, where Chuck meets Jack, but is kicked out by security. In the vicinity of this brothel, Chuck meets his father, Bart Bass, who was believed to be dead.

In the sixth season, Chuck and his father get into big conflicts. Bart even tries to have Chuck killed. When Bart holds on to a railing after an argument and a fall from a skyscraper, Chuck refuses to help him, which is why Bart ultimately falls and dies. Shortly afterwards, Chuck and Blair marry (out of love and) on Jack's advice so as not to have to testify against each other. In the end, you learn that he will later have a son named Henry with Blair.

Lily van der Woodsen

Lillian "Lily" van der Woodsen, divorced and mother of Serena and Eric, is a former groupie of Dan and Jenny's father, Rufus. She is still in love with Rufus, but because of the love of Serena and Dan, she renounces him and instead marries Bart Bass, Chuck's father, at the end of the first season. After he dies in a car accident, Lily and Rufus quickly find each other again. In the second season, Rufus learns from CeCe Rhodes, Lily's mother, that Lily has put their son up for adoption. Then they want to find Scott Rosson, their son. They visit Scott's adoptive parents, but they let them believe that Scott died in a boating accident. They later find out that Scott is still alive and meet with him. He would prefer to live with his adoptive family. In the third season, Lily and Rufus finally get married and she finds out that she has cancer herself, which she hides from Rufus. She is supported by her attending doctor and ex-husband Dr. William van der Woodsen healed, but hesitates long enough so that he can spend time with Lily. Since Lily thought that Ben and Serena were having a relationship at boarding school, she reports him for alleged sexual intercourse with minors in order to keep Serena away from him. Later, however, the opposite is revealed and Lily decides to face the consequences of having an innocent man sent to prison, and faces therefore. She is given an ankle cuff for months and is only allowed to enter a certain radius around her apartment. When Lily's mother dies, an inheritance dispute breaks out between Lily, her sister, and Ivy Dickens - the actress who was supposed to be CeCes granddaughter Charlie Rhodes - because CeCe has bequeathed her entire fortune to Ivy, which no one - except Rufus - can understand . After Lily finds out that her ex-husband William and her sister had a relationship during their marriage and that this resulted in Lola (Charlie Rhodes), she puts her sister Carol behind bars. In the meantime, Lily lives with Rufus in Brooklyn because Ivy has taken over the apartment. In Brooklyn, however, there is a lot of argument between Rufus and Lily, because he is defending Carol on the one hand, but above all Ivy, for whom he - after being tricked by Lily and being homeless - pays a hotel stay. In the end, Lily separates from Rufus, who had ignored her for weeks before, and has her marriage to him annulled, as Bart Bass, believed to be dead, has resurfaced, with whom she still wants to be married and with whom she gets together again. After his death, she is finally married again to William van der Woodsen in the last episode.

Rufus Humphrey

Rufus Humphrey is a former rock star who was abandoned by his wife, Alison. He then ran a gallery, which he closed again towards the end of the second season. He sends his two children, Dan and Jenny, to the elite school so that the best universities are later open to them. In the course of the series it becomes clear that he still has a strong affection for his childhood sweetheart Lily, whom he marries in the third season after a long back and forth. At the end of the fourth season he returned to the music business as a producer. In season 5 he realizes that he misses his old environment and only ever stands next to Lily at parties in high society, even though he doesn't belong there. The two move to Brooklyn for a while, but Lily moves back because she can't live without luxury. Rufus stays and lives without Lily, who after many arguments and when Bart Bass, who was believed to be dead, reappeared, had their marriage annulled in order to be able to stay married to Bart. In the last season he finally dated the young Ivy Dickens, because of whom there was a lot of argument during the marriage to Lily (including CeCe's inheritance). He breaks up with Ivy when he finds out that she cheated on him and used him. In the last episode you learn that Rufus will be with the singer Lisa Loeb in the future.

Ivy Dickens

Ivy Dickens is an 18-year-old Florida actress hired by Lily's sister Carol Rhodes to play her daughter and Serena and Eric's cousin Charlotte "Charlie" Rhodes. Carol promises to get her mother CeCe to release her daughter's trust fund, which CeCe had blocked due to conflicts with her daughter. Ivy grew up in trailer parks with her heroin addicted father until he died in front of her eyes when she was eight years old. Charlie Rhodes, who she embodies, is known to have allegedly tried to keep her away from the intrigues and machinations of the Upper East Side. During the fourth and fifth seasons, Ivy lives in Lily and Rufus' Loft. She befriends Dan, whom she later wants to seduce too, but fails because she starts to copy Serena. In the fifth season she confesses to Rufus that she assumed a false identity. Then she escapes. When Lily hires the family's private investigator because of concerns about Charlie to investigate her whereabouts, it is learned that Carol's real daughter, Charlie Rhodes, is studying at Juilliard . One day Ivy shows up in Lily and Rufus' loft to talk to Lily, who is not there at the moment. Then she returns to where she has been for a long time - with Lily's sick mother, Cece. She stood by her side for months, hiding Cee's illness. When Ivy decides to leave Cece and New York forever, Cece has to be rushed to the hospital because she is not well. Ivy has no choice but to go along and meets Carol, Serena, Lily and Rufus, who are happy to see her again. Only Carol wants to get rid of them quickly. When the real Charlie Rhodes suddenly appears and stands in front of her mother and the whole family, everything ends in a big fiasco and Ivy confesses to everyone that she was only paid by Carol to play the role. Everyone, including the real Charlie, is outraged. The real Charlie leaves the hospital and wants nothing more to do with her mother, while Ivy, who wants to stay forever because of Cece, is driven away by an angry and disappointed Serena.

When Cece's will is finally read out, everyone is surprised that Cece inherited almost everything to Ivy Dickens, even though she knew Ivy was not Charlie Rhodes. Lily thinks Ivy is a cheat and wants to throw her out of her apartment, but then Ivy does, since it is now hers. Lily manages to get Ivy out of the apartment with a trick by claiming that if she leaves the apartment, she will release Cce's frozen assets. Which she doesn't do after Ivy moves out.

After the will was invalidated because Cece's nurse, who probably paid Lily for it, testified that Ivy only looked after Cece for the money, Lily persuades Ivy to testify against Carol. She eventually does so, hoping to befriend Lily again, but when Carol is arrested, Lily writes her a check for a million dollars. Ivy asks her to forgive her and that she only ever wanted a real family, but Lily wants nothing more to do with her. Ivy tears up the check in the elevator. At the end of season five, Ivy gets the check from Lola (Charlie Rhodes) and Lola tells her to use the money to destroy Lily. The two then try this in the last season. In this context, Ivy uses Rufus, she feigns feelings for him and they are in a relationship. But she secretly meets with William, Lily's ex-husband, whom she loves but who only uses her and still loves Lily. Five years later, it is learned that she wrote an autobiography that is to be made into a film.

Jenny Humphrey

Jennifer "Jenny" Tallulah Humphrey is Dan's younger sister. She befriends Eric, Serena's younger brother. Jenny lets Blair take advantage of her because she believes that at some point she can be part of it. Later, however, "Queen B" finds a worthy opponent rather than a servant in Jenny and the two fight to be the most popular. In the second season, she designs her own clothes and becomes an intern at Blair's mother's fashion label. However, there she has problems and tries later on her own. In addition, she no longer wants to go to school to have more time for her job. This leads to a huge argument with her father, as a result of which Jenny moves out of home and finds accommodation with a friend, the model Agnes Andrews. However, since she falls out with Agnes, her career as a designer is badly off and she has to give up her dream after a big drama, moves back in with her family and goes to school again. She also gets together with Nate, but the relationship is short-lived due to his friendship with Dan and his ex-girlfriend Vanessa. At the end of the second season, Blair crowns Jenny the new "Queen" of the 'Constance Billard School for Girls'. At first she refuses to be a Blair-like successor, but the new "ladies-in-waiting" begin to control her more and more and the monarchy casts her spell over her. This not only endangers her relationship with her father, but also Jenny's friendship with Eric. She also starts dealing drugs with her new boyfriend Damien Dalgaard. After he leaves her and Nate is there for her, Jenny tries to hook up with him again - although he is in steady hands with Serena at the moment. After Jenny's world collapses after an argument with Nate, Serena and their family, she finally experiences her first time quite unromantic with none other than Chuck, who then tries to hook up with Blair again. Jenny is devastated and leaves New York at the end of the third season to live with her mother and to relax again. In the sixth episode of the fourth season, however, Jenny comes back because her Chuck got an appointment with the famous fashion designer Tim Gunn to annoy Blair or to get to face her life at NYU instead of continuing with Constance -Meeting schoolgirls. However, after Jenny is immediately embroiled in a series of intrigues, she leaves the city shortly afterwards.

Vanessa Abrams

Vanessa Abrams is Dan's childhood friend. She moved from Vermont back to New York, where she lives in Williamsburg and works in a café. In the first season she is in love with Dan, but does not want to admit this to him. She has a great talent for filming. In the second season she is with Nate and fights with Jenny over him, which Vanessa finally wins. When Nate gets back together with Blair, she and Chuck try to make them jealous. However, they fail to do this, whereupon they have a brief affair. At the beginning of the third season she dated Scott, the son of Lily and Rufus, in the middle of the season she had a threesome with Dan and Olivia Burke, a well-known actress, after which she got together with Dan. She studies at NYU and eventually flies to Haiti for further training. When she returns to New York in season four, she quickly becomes something of a surrogate mother for Dan's supposed son Milow, and she and Dan get closer again. After drugging Serena with Juliet and Jenny, everyone writes her off. Even Dan breaks up with her and ends their friendship a little later. In the middle to the end of the fourth season, she received a scholarship for a year abroad in Barcelona.

Supporting characters

  • Eric van der Woodsen is Serena's 15-year-old brother who tried to commit suicide and was taken to a clinic. He is good friends with Dan and Jenny, but he fights against the latter in the middle of the third season because he doesn't want Jenny to be like Blair in her time as Queen. During this time, his friend Jonathan, with whom he had been together since the second season, breaks up with him because Jonathan thinks that Eric is becoming as intriguing as Jenny.
  • Eleanor Waldorf is the mother of Blair and a hip fashion designer, with whom Jenny also worked as an intern.
  • Bartholomew "Bart" Bass is the father of Chuck, who allegedly died in a car accident. However, he faked it and reappears later. He is married to Lily and runs the large company "Bass Industries" which Chuck inherited after his fake death. However, since he is not dead and is returning, he gets back together with Lily. He also decides that Chuck and Jack should no longer work for "Bass Industries" and disappoints his son. It turns out that Bart committed some crimes that Chuck wants to expose. However, Bart tries to prevent this by all means and even accepts having his own son killed. However, after an argument with Chuck, he falls from the roof of a skyscraper and dies.
  • Georgina Sparks is a former good friend of Serena's. She blackmailed Serena with a video showing that the drugs Serena gave a boy were killing him. Since Serena evades her and gives her to understand that they are no longer friends, she pretends to be Sarah from Portland and befriends Dan and Vanessa. When Serena has put everything in order, Georgina tries to seduce Dan; they kiss. When Dan finds out the truth, with Blair's help he outsmarts her and she ends up in a boot camp. At the end of the second season she reappears, but now completely different from before. She believes in God and has confessed all of her sins. In order for Blair to forgive her, she helps Serena, Chuck, Nate and Blair to catch Poppy. The plan goes wrong, however. Blair later receives a call from Georgina saying that the beast is back and that she took care of Poppy. At the beginning of season 3, she has a brief affair with Dan, which ends quickly. She is sent to Russia by Dorota. At the end of the same season, she comes back with a big baby bump and announces Dan that he is going to be a father. At the beginning of season 4, she lives for a short time in Dan's father's loft, and the two take care of their son Milo. However, when Dan finds out that Milo is not his son, Georgina goes back to her parents with her son. At the end of Season 4, she comes home from her old school at a party. She got engaged to her son's father. In the middle of season 5 she returns to Blair's wedding to her husband Phil because she lacks the drama. It is learned that she is Gossip Girls' successor. After a few episodes, she sends Serena the password and the laptop that can be used to impersonate Gossip Girls. In a future sequence of the season finale, the viewer learns that she and Chuck's uncle Jack are becoming a couple.
  • Jack Bass is Chuck's uncle. A rather seedy person who, however, proves to be of great help in the finale. In order not to be arrested by the police, he suggests Chuck marry Blair. Later he is the friend of Georgina Sparks.
  • Anne and Howard Archibald are Nate's parents. Howie is arrested by the FBI for embezzlement in season two. He is released and he and Anne are getting a divorce.
  • Dorota Kishlovsky is the Waldorfs maid who marries Vanya, the doorman of Lilys and Rufus Loft, and has two children with him.
  • Nelly Yuki is a very intelligent, younger student who, like Blair, wants to go to Yale and is eventually adopted in season two. In the 6th season she works as a fashion reporter who is supposed to evaluate Blair and her new collection.
  • Isabel Coates , Penelope Shafai , Hazel Williams and Kati Farkas are supposedly loyal friends of Blair, who are also called the ladies-in-waiting by their classmates (especially Jenny). They enjoy power games and participate in the first two seasons in the battles between Blair, Serena and Jenny, in which they constantly switch sides.
  • Diana Payne meets Nate in Los Angeles and begins a relationship with him. Nate wants to know more about her and when he meets her in New York, he can't be left alone. She is the director of the "New York Spectators" and also employs Nate there. At the Jenny Pakham Show, the two get on Ivy's cell phone and Diana gets the secret of Ivy. Diana uses this secret to blackmail Ivy, who now also works for the Spectator. Nate's grandfather reveals himself to be an investor in the Spectator. He only continues to invest if Nate becomes head of the Spectator and Diana resigns. Diana then disappears. When Chuck and Blair had a car accident, we see Diana being called by Jack, who then comes back to New York and becomes an investor in the Spectator. When Serena overhears a conversation with Diana and Jack, she hears that it was Diana who donated the life-saving blood to Chuck. Serena then confronts her with this information and it becomes clear that Diana is Chuck's mother. Since Lola is filming this conversation live via Gossip Girl, everyone, including Chuck, will find out. Later the two talk and Chuck tries to develop a relationship with her. Nate, who can't believe all of this, tries to overthrow Diana and fire her as an investor. When Nate is looking for a story about her that he can bring to the front page, it becomes clear that Diana is not Chuck's mother, but only pretended to be to protect Bart Bass.
  • Charlotte / Charlie "Lola" Rhodes : In order to be able to pay for her acting school, she works on the side for a catering company that has already worked at the specator's parties and also at Blair's wedding. At the wedding she also meets Nate and they start to meet more often and later become a couple. Ivy and Lola meet and discover that they know each other from drama school. Since Lola knows nothing of Ivy's secret double life, she addresses her by her real name. Later she gets into conversation with Nate and he tells her that "Ivy" is Serena's cousin Charlie Rhodes. Lola tells him the truth that she is Charlie and suspects that Ivy stole her identity, but doesn't know why. She wants to talk to Ivy about it and sees at Gossip Girl that Ivy is in the hospital, not knowing that Lily, Rufus, Carol and Serena are there too, because Cece is badly. When Lola discovers Carol there, she asks her what she is doing here. It comes to a head and Ivy, who came along, clears up the situation that Carol has hired her to pretend to be Charlie to come to the trust fund. Lola leaves the hospital and a huge argument breaks out in the Rhodes family. When Cece's will is read out, it turns out that Ivy receives almost all of the inheritance. Since Carol cannot allow that, she speaks to William, the will reader, that he has to make sure that she receives her half. If he doesn't manage to do that, she demands all of the maintenance he owes her from Lola's father. When William asks how she should find him, she says that she is speaking to him directly. William wants to build a relationship with Lola, so he tells her everything. At the end of the fifth season, Lola discovers that Lily is trying to sabotage her mother. When Lola receives the inheritance from Cece, she completely overwrites it to Ivy and tells her to use it to destroy Lily. Nate wants to ask Lola if she wants to move in with him, but she already has other plans because she gets a job outside of town and accepts it.

When the film idea was dropped, Alloy Entertainment passed the proposal as a television series. Implementation began in August 2006 when The CW accepted a pilot. On May 15, 2007, the station ordered twelve more episodes. On September 1, 2008, the second Gossip Girl season started with a planned 25 episodes and on February 25, 2009 it was announced that The CW will produce a third season of the series.

Locations

The shooting took place almost exclusively in New York City, in the districts of Queens , Brooklyn and Manhattan . Indoor shots mostly took place in the Silvercup Studios in New York. Sets were built to recreate the New York Palace Hotel and Madison Avenue . The film was also shot in prestigious locations such as the Metropolitan Museum . At the beginning of the 4th season the film was also shot in Paris, but only for a few episodes.

music

The musical implementation of the series was done by Alexandra Patsavas , who has already done this job at OC, California and still at Grey's Anatomy .
While she previously always relied on independent and alternative , she served more mainstream tastes when selecting the songs for the first seasons of Gossip Girl . In the younger seasons, however, there is more and more music by lesser-known artists from the fields of indie pop and rock .

Episode list

Trivia

  • The series was originally planned as a feature film. Lindsay Lohan was to take on the role of Blair Waldorf.
  • Almost all of the English series titles contain an allusion to well-known films or the like. For example: "The Wild Brunch" (episode 1.02), "O Brother, Where Bart Thou?" (2.13). Some titles also allude to well-known comic book heroes. " Poison Ivy " (1.03), " Dare Devil " (1.05) or " The Dark Night " (2.03). "There Might Be Blood" alludes to the film with Daniel Day-Lewis " There Will Be Blood ".
  • In the season finale you can see Kristen Bell in a scene , who gave Gossip Girl the voice throughout the series, as she first recites the familiar lines from Gossip Girl. A little later it is revealed that she and Rachel Bilson are preparing to be audited for a film version of one of the books that Dan Humphrey had written. Bilson plays Blair, while Bell plays Serena. After Bilson finds out that Dan is an incredibly good writer, they both receive the message with the final chapter from Dan's latest book, in which it is revealed that he is Gossip Girl.
  • In the course of the series, some GossipGirl blogs were created in Germany. As a reader, you can follow and comment on the latest post, as well as send the "Gossip Girl" sightings and tips. One of these blogs could be reached at the URL msgossipgirl.jimdo.com. This worked like any other Gossip Girl blog, but there was a different story here and its course could be influenced by the readers through tips etc. So it wasn't a strict stance on the series or the book series. However, as in the series, this Gossip Girl was totally unknown to the readers.

Running gags

Blair very often creates puns on Chuck Bass' first name and last name, especially when she is upset with him. It can happen that creations like: "Motherchucker", "Bass-hole", "Good Cop, Bass Cop", "Two birds with one bass" or "Bass-tard" emerge.

Cedric, Dan's doll, is also mentioned several times in the course of the plot. For example, Jenny Blair talks about Cedric. His father also makes fun of it every now and then and when Serena visits Dan for the first time at home, she also meets him.
