Hamptons or the Hamptons is the name of a region on the east end of Long Island in Suffolk County of the US state New York . The name is derived from the local cities of Southampton , East Hampton , Westhampton , Bridgehampton and Hampton Bays . The Hamptons are between 130 kilometers (Westhampton) and 230 kilometers ( Montauk ) from New York City .
For many decades, the Hamptons have been considered the Mecca of the super-rich and are primarily used by wealthy Americans as a weekend or summer residence.
