The Affair is an American television series starring Dominic West and Ruth Wilson , created by Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi and produced for Showtime television . It is about an extramarital affair between teacher and writer Noah Solloway (West) and waitress Alison Lockhart (Wilson) and the impact that affair has on their marriages, partners and families. The series was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards in its first season : the series itself for Best Drama , Dominic West for Best Actor in a Leading Role and Ruth Wilson for Best Actress in a Leading Role . While West lost to Kevin Spacey , the lead actor from House of Cards , the series won the other two awards.

The special thing about the narrative style of the series are the parallel narrative strands that successively tell the same scenes and narrative memories from the respective male and female perspective of the characters Noah and Alison. In the second season, this narrative style is expanded by the perspectives of the characters Helen Solloway and Cole Lockhart, the betrayed spouses of the two main characters. This cinematic narrative form became known through the film Rashomon by director Akira Kurosawa .

action

The focal point of the plot is the extramarital affair between the teacher and failed author Noah Solloway, a married father of four, and the waitress Alison Lockhart, mother of a son who died accidentally before the start of the plot. She feels responsible for the death of her son, which she thinks she could have prevented as a nurse. Noah is actually happily married, but self-doubt plagues him as he is more and more dependent on his rich father-in-law, who is also a writer. It took Noah ten years to publish his first moderately successful book and, in view of the success of Helen's father, feels pressured and a failure.

Cast and dubbing

The German-language dubbing of the series is produced by Cinephon Filmproduktions GmbH under the dialogue direction and dialogue script by Reinhard Knapp and Ulrich Johannson.
