23 1 Shadow of a shadow 301 Nov 20, 2016 Nov 25, 2016 Jeffrey Reiner Sarah Treem 0.59 million
The third season begins three years after the plot of the second season ends. Unlike before, the first episode only shows Noah's view of things.
Noah's perspective: Noah Solloway has served his prison sentence and is mourning his recently deceased father at the beginning of the episode. He has also lost his fortune and lives with his sister, whose husband sees him as a parasite. During the funeral service he sees the man for the first time, who watches him over and over again throughout the episode and pursues him. Although his sister cared for the father towards the end of his life, Noah inherits the parental home. Noah also teaches literature at a university, where he meets his colleague Professor Le Gall. The two get closer at a party, but Noah turns away from her and goes home. There he is stabbed in the neck by an unknown person and goes to the ground bleeding profusely.
24 2 Arrangements 302 Nov 27, 2016 Dec 2, 2016 John Dahl Anya Epstein 0.58 million
The plot of the second episode begins chronologically a year before the first episode.
Helen's perspective: Helen is with Dr. Vic Ullah, who has moved into the basement of her house, and works as a realtor. She visits Noah in prison even though the two are no longer together. Noah is only interested in seeing his children, but Helen does not want to take them to jail because Noah is regularly beaten up there. Together with Vic she visits her eldest daughter Whitney, who lives with the much older artist Fukat. Helen is concerned that she is neglecting her education, but Whitney and Fukat are convinced that as an assistant they will learn more. Helen breaks off the visit and back home there is an argument between Vic and Helen about their situation in life. Helen is dissatisfied with the half-separate living situation of the two, whereupon Vic symbolically fetches his things from the basement and moves upstairs to Helen's apartment.
Alison's perspective: On the anniversary of her first child's death, Alison takes the train to her hometown of Montauk, where she rented a room to mourn him. She had left her ex-husband and daughter Joanie for six months and went into psychiatric treatment. Her ex-husband Cole, who is also the biological father of her daughter, and his second wife Luisa had taken care of the girl. Since it was very difficult for Joanie that her mother had left, Cole and Luisa refuse to contact their daughter. In a conversation in a bar, Allison tells her former boss, Oscar Hodges, how, when she was feeling very bad mentally, she passed custody of her daughter to Cole and Luisa and that her mental problems began when her daughter got old in which her first son drowned. Cole later changes his mind and she is allowed to see her daughter again.
25th 3 Attempted murder 303 4th Dec 2016 Dec 9, 2016 Jeffrey Reiner David Henry Hwang 0.66 million
Juliette's perspective: After Juliette secretly read Noah's book hidden in a paper envelope during the day, he and a few students visit her for dinner in the evening. The two get closer, but Noah withdraws and leaves the party. After the other guests have left, Juliette notices that Noah has forgotten his jacket. In her pocket she finds a note with his address. Once there, she finds Noah is bleeding on the floor.
Noah: Noah's part follows directly on from Juliette's. While he is being driven to the hospital half unconscious for an operation, moments from his prison stay are shown. Among others, John Gunther from his former swimming team is a guard in the prison where Noah was imprisoned. After the operation, Helen visits him in the hospital. The nurse tells Noah what is known about the incident, but Noah can only remember that he was doing the washing up. When Noah is released from the hospital, his sister picks him up. Noah first wants to see Juliette to find out why she was at his apartment. Then he stays with her. In the flashbacks, John gives Noah a typewriter. He develops a strange obsession with Noah.

Cole's perspective: Cole is celebrating the fifth birthday of his daughter Joanie. His new wife Louisa and Alison compete for the care of Joanie. After Louisa has accepted Joanie as her daughter, it is difficult for her to share her guardianship with her birth mother again. While Louisa Cole explains her feelings about the situation, the police rings and asks for an alibi for the time of the crime. Louisa spontaneously gives him a false alibi, but doesn't know where he has been herself. When Cole then complains to Alison that she did not inform him about Noah's release, she apologizes for the complication of his life situation. Cole kisses her then.
Alison's perspective: Alison is playing in the playground with Joanie, who wants to balance over a climbing frame. From Noah's point of view, the potentially dangerous situation is presented in a much more harmless way from Alison's point of view. Noah and the employee of the youth welfare office show no interest at all. She then tries to convince Joanie's legal advisor that she is ready for unsupervised visits to her daughter. The office is not convinced, refers to old psychological reports and the fact that she is still formally married to Noah. In the evening she receives a visit from the criminal investigation department, which is investigating the attempted murder of Noah. Louisa tries to keep her away from her mother at Joanie's birthday party. Noah puts Joanie on the horse against her will, from which she then falls off. Unlike Cole's memory, it is not Alison who comforts the little one, but Louisa. When Alison leaves the party, Louisa carries the homemade cake after her and accuses Alison of not being able to tailor her needs to Joanies. When Cole visits her in the evening, she shows him the homemade dollhouse that she would like to give Joanie for her birthday. Then the two have sex. The next morning Louisa stops by Alison to tell her that she can stay with Alison on Tuesday. On the way to town, she meets Noah, who comes towards her.
27 5 Just a day 305 Dec 18, 2016 23 Dec 2016 Jeffrey Reiner Sharr White 0.72 million
Alison's perspective: Noah stayed at Alison's. The next morning she explains to him that she cannot be seen with him because of the custody battle. He persuades her to spend a single day with him and, if she wants to continue, to sign the divorce papers; they spend this on Block Island . Alison asks him why he never wanted to bring the truth to light, that Alison contributed to the death of her brother-in-law and could have pleaded for self-defense. Because they miss the last ferry from the excursion island back to the mainland, they spend the night in a hotel. There she tells Noah that she left Joanie because she had psychological problems.
Noah's Perspective: A look back shows Noah's time in prison. Alison visits Noah in prison and tells them that she has just returned to Montauk. In the period that followed, the sadistic prison guard John Gunther continued to harass Noah, for example taking away the only copy of a manuscript for his next book. Back in the present, Alison and Noah talk about their traumatic experiences around the deaths of their mothers on Block Island and later have sex. Noah had a nightmare that night about John teasing him in jail for masturbating on the picture of Alison and being locked in solitary confinement for attacking him. After watching Alison pick up her daughter, Noah hallucinates at a red light that he is being followed by John Gunther and being rammed by his pickup, causing Noah to have an accident.

Helen's perspective: Noah did not appear for a conversation with Martin at the headmaster's. It's his last chance to graduate from high school since he's already 19 and has already done the senior year twice. While Helen is defending Noah, Martin accuses her of not cutting off all ties with him. Helen then visits Noah with his sister Nina. This accuses Helen of never having really known Noah and of never having seen the emotional baggage caused by the death of his mother. She asks Helen who really drove the accident vehicle. Helen then meets with Max and seduces him, although he is about to get married. When they then sit on the floor, she tries to talk to him about college. Max throws her out because, from his point of view, it's all about Noah again, instead of him and Helen. Martin comes home later and says that he spent the day with Noah at the lake house. Helen drives through the night and finds Noah there hallucinating with someone in the lake.
Noah's perspective: Noah brings Juliette back her damaged car. He spends the night in her house and the next day he goes to the house that he inherited from his father. While he is starting to clean it out, he meets old school friends in town and his son Martin, who wants to spend time alone, also comes to Noah's father's house. In the evening, both are invited to dinner at Noah's friends. Noah suddenly feels bad and collapses at home. When he is better, he shows Martin the last letter from his grandmother from the night she died. Through the story from his past, Martin and Noah get closer and Martin promises him to take school more seriously from now on. The next morning, Noah initially thinks that Martin is gone. He goes to the lake and sees someone who looks like Martin. He runs into the water, up close he sees that it is a hallucination of his younger self.
29 7th You do not know me 307 Jan. 8, 2017 Jan. 13, 2017 Jeffrey Reiner Anya Epstein 0.65 million
Helen's perspective: Helen is on her way back from the lake house with Noah and takes him home with her. Her boyfriend Vic accuses her of still loving Noah and only supporting him because of that. After lying to Vic several times that Noah was gone again, Vic moves out. Helen confronts Noah with the fact that he is punishing himself and forgives him everything and wants to be with him again. The two have sex.
Noah's perspective: On the way back Noah buys a knife from Gunther's family in the hunting and fishing shop and tries to find out more about his tormentor from prison from John's mother. While he sleeps in Helen's basement apartment, he dreams of the time in solitary confinement and how John abused him in prison for no reason. He later hallucinates that Gunther is attacking him in the apartment. When Noah and Helen later have sex, Noah chokes them almost to unconsciousness.
30th 8th Story without end 308 Jan 15, 2017 Jan. 20, 2017 John Dahl Stuart Zicherman 0.61 million
Alison's perspective: In the court case for custody of Joanie, Juliette, surprisingly, speaks out in favor of shared custody for everyone involved, and Cole agrees. In a later conversation with Cole, he expresses that he doesn't trust Alison because she lied to him about meeting Noah. Later, Alison visits a young woman who has just lost her child and has attempted suicide, and talks to help her process it. When she tells Cole about it on the way back, he reacts very cautiously and accuses her of a lack of responsibility towards Joanie. In the evening, Alison meets Helen in a bar, whom she has accidentally seen entering and who joins her. They talk about how different Noah was in their two relationships. Alison also wants to tell her that she was at the scene of Cole's brother Scott, which Helen doesn't want to know about. Police later inform Alison that Cole's alibi is void and that he was near the crime scene at the time.
Cole's perspective: Louisa explains to Cole that she wants to see what she feels in court and that she wants to end the custody battle. Cole then agrees to the shared guardianship for Joanie. Then he drives to the construction site of his house, which the new site manager has imposed a construction freeze on. Alison stops by Cole with donuts, and unlike what she remembers, the two don't eat together. In the evening Louisa Cole suggests adopting a child. However, he is too exhausted from the long day to talk about it. From the next day Oscar comes to the construction site on behalf of the city administration to warn Cole that he must adhere to the construction freeze. Cole tells him about the affair with his ex-wife Alison. When Alison and Cole are talking about adopting children in the evening, the police appear again to ask for Cole's true alibi. However, he is assaulted one of the police officers and has to spend the night in a cell. Visited Alsison there and he told her he was at Alison's Mental Hospital to talk to the doctor about her mental state. Cole admits to Alison that he still loves her and is unsure whether to leave Louisa. After his release, he talks to Alison one sleepless night. The next morning, Cole decides to stay with Louisa and asks her if she still wants to be with him.

Helen's perspective: Helen decides to go with the children to their parents. After her parents rave about Vic, she tells them that Vic left her. When her parents and children talk badly about Noah again, she breaks out that she drove the vehicle involved in the accident. Helen then wants to go to Scott's mother to tell her this. To prevent this, her parents lock Helen in a panic room in the basement. Helen manages to escape, however, and she stops at a bar where Alison meets her. Helen tells her that she drove the accident vehicle. Alison tells her that she knows because she was also at the scene of the accident and Noah knew that all along. That opens Helen's eyes and she catches Vic at the hospital the next morning and tells him why she took care of Noah.
Noah's perspective: Noah went to the Gunthers to confront John. John is noticeably different from hallucinations in Noah. When John denies that he is chasing Noah, Noah attacks him with a knife. Noah does not recognize any injuries from John's attack in Helen's basement apartment and realizes that he is hallucinating. Noah realizes that John didn't abuse him in prison and that he injured himself in the neck.

Juliette's perspective: Noah is doing better and visits Juliette in Paris. When she comes home in the morning, her demented husband is clear for a brief moment and she enjoys the moment together with her daughter. So far, she had kept the disease secret from the university, where her husband also works. In a conversation with the dean, Juliette clears the table and explains to her that her husband will never be able to work again. The dean then ended Juliette's position at the university, assuming that a large part of Juliette's work could come from her husband. While having lunch with Noah, she learns that her husband has passed away.
Noah's perspective: While walking through Paris, Noah happened to see a poster for an exhibition by Furkat, the friend and boss of his daughter Whitney. When he wants to visit the exhibition in the evening, Noah sees how bad Furkat treats his daughter and how Furkat beats her. He persuades Whitney to take a break from exhibition tour with Furkat. The next day, Noah and Whitney fly back to the USA where Whitney arrives just in time to celebrate Christmas with Helen, Vic and their children.
