Laura Elizabeth Innes (born August 16, 1957 in Pontiac , Michigan ) is an American actress and director .

family

Innes is the youngest of six siblings. She attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois , where she graduated in 1979 with a degree in drama. Her fellow students also included the future actress Megan Mullally ( Will & Grace ).

After her first fiancé died in a knife fight, she married David Brisbin in 1988 . The couple have a biological son and an adopted daughter from China .

Career

After graduating from high school, Laura Innes played successfully at various theaters in Chicago and New York City until she moved to Los Angeles with her husband . There she applied for the role of Dr. Ross' ( George Clooney ) girlfriend on the Emergency Room series . Instead, she was given the role of Dr. Kerry Weaver , who made several guest appearances in the second season of the series. From the third season in 1995, however, she was a permanent member. In addition to her work as an actress, she also worked as a director for Emergency Room and other series such as The West Wing - In the Center of Power .

Your role as Dr. Weaver requires a walking disability, which Innes does not have, but plays very convincingly. However, over time, this actually developed into health problems for the actress. Laura Innes finally left the series in 2007, but returned again in 2009 for the two episodes of the series finals.

The actress also celebrated success on the big screen. She starred in the disaster film Deep Impact alongside Robert Duvall , Téa Leoni , Elijah Wood and Vanessa Redgrave , and in Can't stop dancing she plays alongside her colleague Noah Wyle and Illeana Douglas .

Awards

Innes was nominated for an Emmy for directing The West Wing . In addition, she was nominated six times for best actress by the organization "Viewers for Quality Television" from 1996 to 2000.

She has received several awards over the years for her portrayal in the Emergency Room series . She was nominated five times for the SAG Award and was able to win three of them. There are also other nominations for the Emmy Award and the Q Award.
