The Event (THE EVƎNT) is an American science fiction television series by Nick Wauters, which was produced from 2010 by Universal Media Studios for the US broadcaster NBC , it was a season with 22 episodes. The series is described as a thriller, love story and mystery series with science fiction elements.

action

The plot is mostly told in flashbacks at the beginning, but later in the series, mostly in the present. The plot relates to the secret emergency landing of aliens in Alaska in 1944. Since the aliens, which differ from humans only on the basis of their DNA , but look identical on the outside, were viewed as a threat, 97 of them are permanently in one secret prison in Alaska. However, some individuals managed to escape capture, go into hiding, and get involved in important positions in public life and society.

When the US President found out 66 years later of the existence of those beings who age extremely slowly by earthly conditions, he wanted to use this information to make the media public, which influential opponents want to prevent by all means. One of the main characters in the series is Sean Walker, who happens to get caught between the lines after his girlfriend was kidnapped by opponents of the president to put pressure on her father, a pilot. While the further events are determined from a network of intrigues, conspiracies, plans and counterplans, a dramatic race against the time of all those involved begins, in which first the lives of individuals, then many, then all of humanity is at stake.

The eponymous event refers to a far-reaching secret that the aliens conceal within themselves.

production

The script was written by Nick Wauters in 2006, but it wasn't brought to NBC by producer Steve Stark until 2009 , after hearing that the station was looking for a series with an "event factor". In January 2010, NBC then ordered a pilot episode .

The casting lasted from the beginning of February to mid-March. Jeffrey Reiner has been named director and executive producer following a deal with Universal Media Studios .

In order to be as innovative in the narrative structure as the television series 24 with its split screens or Lost with the different narrative times, attempts were made to tell the same scenes from different angles, which was dropped again after the pilot episode.

On May 7, 2010, NBC announced its fall program ordering The Event as a series, followed by news that Evan Katz would now work on the series as showrunner and executive producer. In mid-July 2010, Clifton Collins, Jr. was cast in the role of Thomas . The Event was one of four new series shown at San Diego Comic-Con .

On October 18, 2010, NBC ordered a full 22 episode season. Due to declining ratings, NBC decided to take the series on a longer break in order to reboot, so the series did not continue to air until March 7, 2011 with a double episode.

On May 13, 2011, the series was discontinued by NBC. After the setting, negotiations between the producers and the cable broadcaster Syfy began to continue the series. However, the negotiations were declared a failure shortly afterwards.

Radiance and reach

TV ratings for the series in the United States

In the US, the first season of the series ran from September 20, 2010 on NBC. The pilot episode was seen by 11.19 million people and thus achieved a rating of 3.7 in the advertising-relevant target group of 18 to 49 year olds.

Germany

Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland has secured the rights to the series . The German-language first broadcast began on October 26, 2011 in double episodes on RTL II , but ended after the first six episodes due to low audience ratings. The series was only broadcast to the end by RTL II after a two-year break, but no longer at prime time, but deep into the night.

International

Internationally, broadcasters in Greece , Canada , Great Britain , Sweden , South Africa , Russia , Italy and Australia have secured the rights to the series.
