Blair Underwood (born August 25, 1964 in Tacoma , Washington ) is an American actor .

Underwood studied acting at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. His career began in 1985 with guest appearances on The Bill Cosby Show and Knight Rider . In the same year Underwood turned his first feature film with Krush Groove . In 1987 he got the role of Jonathan Rollins in the lawyer series LA Law , which he played until 1994 and for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe in 1991 . In 1992 he received his first Image Award for the docudrama Murder in Mississippi . He received his second Image Award in 1995 for LA Law .

In 1995 he starred alongside Sean Connery and Laurence Fishburne in the thriller Swamp of Crime . A year later, Underwood appeared in Set It Off . He also played baseball legend Jackie Robinson in the television film Soul of the Game . 1997 Underwood starred in the science fiction film Gattaca on the side of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke . 1998 followed a role in the disaster film Deep Impact .

In 2000 he took on the lead role in the television series City of Angels , which in 2001 earned him another Image Award for best actor in a drama series . In the same year he received his last Image Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the war film Rules - Seconds of Decision . In 2004, Underwood had recurring guest roles on the television series Sex and the City and Lax . In 2006 he starred in the thriller The Hades Factor . From March 2015, Underwood took on a recurring supporting role in the television series Marvel's Agents of SHIELD .

In the 2007 audio book "The Bible Experience" (the complete Bible text, including with Denzel Washington and Angela Bassett ) he took over the speaking role of Jesus .

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
