The FBI has information that the attack was supposed to have been carried out by one of the former Quantico FBI recruits . The FBI Academy is located in Quantico, where the so-called New Agents in Training (NAT for short) are trained.

The meanwhile trained agent Alex Parrish is initially the main suspect, but she vehemently protests her innocence. But since her superiors are not convinced of Alex's statement, she goes into hiding and tries to find out who was actually behind the attack. She has a few friends who she met during her training at Quantico by her side. Flashbacks show in detail the group of NATs during this time.

season 1

Flashbacks: FBI Academy Quantico

At the center of the plot are initially the NATs Alex Parrish, Ryan Booth, the twins Nimah and Raina Amin, Shelby Wyatt, Simon Asher and Caleb Haas. Alex and Ryan seem to meet by chance on a plane before the start of their training and then have sex. It turns out that instructor Liam O'Connor used Ryan undercover as NAT to find out more about Alex. After Alex, who is the most talented recruit in training, initially avoids Ryan upon arriving at Quantico, she gradually lets him get closer and begins an affair with him. Although both have feelings for each other, they end their relationship as Alex in particular feels that they are not good for each other; Ryan leaves Quantico and initially works undercover again. After Director Miranda Shaw is forced to resign, Ryan has been assisting Liam O'Connor in the final weeks of training for the NATs. Alex briefly starts a relationship with Drew Perales, who breaks up with her when he realizes that she still loves Ryan.

Shelby Wyatt comes from a good family, wants to be an FBI agent after her parents died on September 11th, and is an excellent shot. As the series progresses, she begins a relationship with Caleb Haas, who became NAT through his influential parents, but separates from him after a while. Through Caleb's help, Shelby learns that her supposed half-sister Samara has only pretended to be her sister to get money for her parents, who never died on 09/11. This brings Caleb and Shelby closer together again. Caleb learns that after a meeting, Shelby's parents are only after their money and not interested in their daughter. In order not to hurt Shelby, Caleb writes letters to her on behalf of her parents out of love for her, to express their supposed affection.

Caleb has an alter ego named Mark Raymond through whom he tries on behalf of his father to find out about the disappearance of his best friend in the SISTEMICS sect, which he was a teenager. He is supported by the highly talented NAT Will Olsen. In order not to jeopardize the operation, Caleb is then not allowed to admit that he worked on behalf of the FBI. When Shelby finds out about this and the fake letters from her parents, she breaks up with him. She seeks revenge on her parents, which Alex reports so that Shelby does not destroy her future, whereupon Shelby ends his friendship with Alex.

The twins Nimah and Raina Amin act on behalf of Director Miranda Shaw one and the same person. There are always arguments between the two very different sisters. Simon Asher, who initially pretends to be gay, gradually develops a certain affection for Raina. He has to leave the academy after it is discovered he attacked Ryan in his third week of training. In the course of the series, the true identity of Nimah and Raina is revealed, and they have to prove themselves over and over again. Towards the end of her training, Raina questions whether a life as an agent is right for her and seeks Simon's advice. Although she has feelings for him, she ultimately chooses Nimah and the FBI.

Present: After the attack at Grand Central Terminal

After Alex comes around almost unscathed at the scene and bomb-making instructions and weapons are found in her apartment, she becomes the main suspect of the attack, as it is assumed that the mole in the FBI came from her year in Quantico. In this predicament, she tries to find out on her own who the possible terrorist could be. Little by little, her old classmates, who keep making themselves suspicious, believe in their innocence, which Alex can ultimately prove. It turns out that Elias Harper, a former NAT analyst, is the assassin. Although he claims he was coerced into his actions, he committed suicide. Subsequently, a bomb goes off in the makeshift FBI office, the trigger was in the hand of Simon, who was tied up by Elias. Over 30 agents die in the explosion, including Clayton Haas, Caleb's father, with whom Shelby had an affair.

The investigation is closed three months after the attack. Alex, the only one convinced that there is a second terrorist, is considered insane because of her belief and is cut off from the others. Shelby's affair with Clayton was exposed shortly after the attack and she blames Alex for it. Simon is a broken man after blaming himself for the agents' death. Raina has turned her back on the FBI after breaking up with her sister, Caleb is being kept hidden at home by his mother, Senator Claire Haas, for his supposed protection and is a drug addict.

Shortly after Alex starts working for the FBI again, she receives an anonymous phone call confirming her suspicions about a second terrorist. This forces her to take various actions, otherwise he would do something to her friends. In fact, he first kills Natalie Vazquez, who was also NAT and, according to Quantico, was briefly in a relationship with Ryan. Together with Simon, Alex begins to determine who the second assassin could be, and learns that almost all of her friends from Quantico are either in danger, involved, or are being forced to act by the terrorist. So she initially suspects Shelby behind the attacks, which can convey to her through a secret message that she and Caleb are on her side, then Ryan and finally Drew. Through their investigation, she, Shelby, and Caleb find out that there is an atomic bomb that Will and Simon were forced to build. Nimah and Ryan, who seem suspicious of Alex's behavior, try to find out what game they are supposed to be playing. Finally, Drew turns out to be the terrorist and Alex can thus prove her innocence. When the FBI determined Drew's location, he died from a bomb. However, he can prove beforehand that his voice was used to blackmail Alex and that he is not the real assassin either. Finally, it turns out that Liam is behind it all and has meticulously planned the attacks since the beginning of the training. He wants to detonate the atomic bomb at another graduation ceremony in Quantico. Alex manages to shoot Liam. When Simon subsequently realizes that the bomb cannot be defused, he escapes with it in a car and falls from a bridge into a lake, whereby he dies himself, but no one else is harmed.

At Simon's funeral, it turns out that Claire Haas was involved the entire time to have a positive influence on her election campaign, which she involuntarily admits to Caleb. Simon is celebrated as a hero. Miranda is appointed head of the FBI and brings Shelby back to the FBI, but cannot do the same for Alex yet, since a. her face is too well known to work undercover. Alex and Ryan find each other again. The first season ends a few months after the thwarted attack on Quantico with Alex receiving an offer from the CIA to work for the organization.
