Dennis Boutsikaris

Dennis M. Boutsikaris (born December 21, 1952 in Newark , New Jersey ) is an American actor .

Life

Dennis M. Boutsikaris was born to an American of Greek descent and a Jewish mother. He grew up in Berkeley Heights . After graduating from the private art school Hampshire College in 1970, he toured the country with John Houseman's drama company The Acting Company . He made his off-Broadway debut in 1978 with William Shakespeare's All Well Ending , followed by his Broadway debut in Martin Sherman's 1979 Bent .

After his feature film debut in 1980 in the action film Der Exterminator I , Boutsikaris played in films such as The Miracle in 8th Street , Coffee, Milk and Sugar and W. - A Misunderstood Life . In some cases he was repeatedly cast as a doctor. He stayed true to that type casting even in his series appearances. He played as a guest star in television series such as Mord ist ihr Hobby , Monk and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, both doctors.

Boutsikaris was married to actress Deborah Hedwall from 1982 to 2002 , with whom he has two children.
