Russell George Tovey (born November 14, 1981 in Essex , England ) is an English actor who works in television, films, theater and radio plays.

biography

Tovey began his acting career as a child. He grew up in Billericay , Essex , where he received his first acting lessons at Shenfield High School from actor Ralph Morse.

His television career began with the BBC in 1994 when he appeared on the British children's series Mud . In 2004 he played the role of Rudge in Alan Bennett's drama The History Boys at London's National Theater and then performed the play on Broadway and in Sydney , Wellington and Hong Kong . He also played this role in the film of the same name and a BBC radio play. He then rose to prominence in the UK for appearances on television series such as Messias (2005), Doctor Who (2007, 2010), Annually Retentive (2007), Being Human (2008-2013) and Little Dorrit (2008). In the fantasy series Being Human , Tovey played the werewolf George for four seasons . The series was also internationally successful, so that the station Syfy broadcast an adaptation of the series in the United States from 2011 to 2014 . In the second season of the series Looking , Tovey was part of the main cast. Since 2015, Russel Tovey has also played one of the leading roles in the British drama Banished .

Tovey has been in a relationship with his boyfriend since 2009. He noticed that he was gay at the age of 11, when he fell in love with an older actor, around 19 years old.
