action

The two friends Aidan and Josh have a secret: Aidan is a vampire and Josh is a werewolf . To appear more normal, they decide to move into a shared apartment together, but their house is already occupied by a ghost named Sally. The three supernatural beings support each other in leading a human life, even if their friendship is repeatedly put to the test.

season 1

Aidan, who lives in Boston, is a vampire over 200 years old who tries to live as human a life as possible. He has turned away from his creator Bishop and lives exclusively on blood, to which he has easy access as a nurse in a hospital. Nevertheless, it happens that on a date with his colleague Rebecca he accidentally kills her. His friend Josh is a werewolf and is fed up with running through the woods as an uncontrollable violent beast once a month. So the two of them decide to move into an apartment together to support each other in leading a more human life. Shortly after moving in, they meet a ghost named Sally, who died six months earlier and has been stuck in this house ever since. So vampire, werewolf and ghost live together under one roof.

Aidan quickly runs into problems with Rebecca's murder, as his creator Bishop did not remove her, but turned her into a vampire. Aidan tries to make up for his mistake by helping her to live a “vegetarian” life, but Rebecca refuses. Bishop also wants to bring him back to his clan through Rebecca.

Josh meets the werewolf Ray, who teaches him a lot about his life as a wolf. At first he does not notice that he is being negatively influenced by Ray. During an argument, it turns out that it was Ray who turned Josh into a werewolf two years earlier. Josh is shocked and vows never to become like his creator.

Sally tries to come to terms with her "life" as a ghost and gradually learns with the help of other ghosts how she can leave the house. There is a door to the hereafter for every spirit, which only appears when all things on earth are done. Sally quickly uses her newly learned skills to be close to her fiancé Danny. She learns that he is hooking up with her former best friend Bridget. Eventually, it turns out that she didn't die of an accidental fall on the stairs, but was murdered by Danny.

Meanwhile, Josh meets the nurse Nora. Because of his curse, he wants to take the relationship with her slowly, which leads to teething problems.

During the visit of the vampire elders, Bishop tries to get Aidan back on his side for good. He throws up a werewolf fight, for which he kidnaps Josh, knowing that he is Aidan's best friend. Josh can win the first fight but remains trapped for another duel. To prevent this, Aidan agrees to rejoin Bishop. Because he is afraid that the elders will want to kill him, he attacks them. Aidan intervenes and saves the most important of the elders, Hegeman, getting help from Rebecca. She realizes that she doesn't want to continue living as a vampire and persuades Aidan to kill her.

After Josh is released, Nora tells him that she is pregnant. Nora also becomes suspicious, follows him into the basement on a full moon night and sees his transformation and werewolf form there. In doing so, she miscarries because the fetus in her transforms as well. Josh tells her about his encounter with Ray, which only turned him into a werewolf with a scratch. Nora is happy that she finally knows his secret, but withholds the fact that he hurt her himself before his final transformation in the basement.

Now that Sally knows the truth about her death, she pursues Danny and tries to make his life hell. He then gets an exorcist to help to drive Sally away for good. Sally can prevent this at first; Danny sets fire to the house and is held in the flames by Sally. Aidan and Josh arrive in time and can put out the fire. They force Danny to admit to the police that he was arson and guilty of Sally's death, and he is arrested.

When the three of them are sitting together in the house, Sally's door appears. Before she can go through, Bishop storms in through the window and rams a stake into Aidan's chest. Josh takes him to the hospital with Nora, where they rescue him and prepare him for his final fight against Bishop. With Josh and Sally's help, Aidan manages to behead Bishop.

season 2

After Aidan was to be given power over the vampires in Boston, the vampire head "mother" appears at a meeting and announces that not he, but her daughter Suren should have power over Boston. However, he would get his freedom if he would help her as a right-hand man to clean Boston of Bishop's illegally transformed vampires.

Meanwhile Josh faces another transformation into a werewolf and he lets Nora drive him into the forest. Nora is terrified herself that the injury Josh inflicted on her last time he was transformed has now turned her into a werewolf herself. At first everything looks like the curse has not hit her, but then she too begins to transform. While she, like Josh, chases through the forest as an uncontrollable wolf, she kills Hegeman, who had followed the two to shoot Josh on behalf of mother.

Sally, on the other hand, has been followed by a mysterious shadow since she missed her door. At the same time, she learns from an old school friend named Stevie, who is now a ghost himself, how to penetrate a person's body and take it over. So she takes over the body of a doctor's friend from the hospital a few times and starts an affair with him. When she only manages to get out of her body with difficulty, she lets go of it.

After Josh learns that he made Nora a werewolf, he promises her to research an antidote to rid herself and herself of the curse. During his research, he meets the twins Connor and Brynn, who are also werewolves. But unlike Josh, they were born werewolves and try to find a way to always be a werewolf with the help of his research. Nora, on the other hand, is slowly enjoying her werewolf existence and lets herself be influenced by the twins, while she turns away from Josh more and more. On a full moon night, she finally kills her violent ex-boyfriend together with Connor and Brynn.

Between Aidan and Suren, their love for each other slowly rekindles. Suren was buried alive for 85 years because a breakout on her part had led to a massacre . Fearing that her mother might punish her like this again, she does everything possible not to disappoint her and is not afraid to brutally kill the vampire orphans. Reluctantly, she gets support from Aidan, who discovers his descendant Henry among the vampire orphans.

When Josh learns that Nora is responsible for the death of her ex-boyfriend, he tries everything to divert suspicion from her. He gets the help of the policewoman Cecilia, who was turned into a vampire by Suren, to take over from now on Bishop's position in the police. She agrees to help Josh, but only if he reveals Hegeman's murderer to her in return. To protect Nora, he claims Connor and Brynn were responsible for Hegeman's death. While trying to kill the twins, Cecilia herself is captured by them.

Meanwhile, Aidan goes in search of Cecilia and soon learns from Conner that he and his sister are holding her prisoner. In order to free them, he is supposed to come into the forest on the night of the full moon, where it later turns out that the werewolves are hunting Cecilia and Aidan together with Nora - and involuntarily Josh too. Aidan manages to save himself, but not Cecilia. The next morning he returns to the forest hut and shoots Conner, who has now become human again. After this event, Nora leaves town with Brynn.

At the same time, Sally finds out what the mysterious shadow is all about. It's the Grim Reaper . He explains to her that it is his job to fetch “superfluous” spirits and that he now has to fetch her too, since she did not take her door back then. However, he confesses to her that he likes and doesn't want to get her. So he offers her his job as a grim reaper. Since Sally does not want to go to the afterlife yet, she first accepts the task. When it turns out that she has to kill her ghost friends in the process, she refuses. Instead, the Grim Reaper seems to be killing wildly and killing Stevie and Nick too. Sally is afraid that it will soon be her turn until it turns out that she is the Grim Reaper herself, as she has developed a second - evil - personality by missing her door.

After Suren and Aidan finish their job, mother comes back to Boston to see their success. But instead of granting Aidan his freedom, he is banished by her. He then asks Suren to leave Boston with him. She initially agrees and goes with him, but soon returns to Boston out of fear.

Josh first falls into a deep hole after Nora's disappearance, but soon gets closer to his ex-fiancée Julia, who now works in the same hospital as him. Since Josh simply left her at the time because of his curse, both are initially skeptical, but ultimately they let their love for each other revive. So Josh decides to tell her about his werewolf existence too. A solar eclipse occurs and Josh unexpectedly experiences a partial transformation. When Julia sees him, she runs away in shock, is hit by a car and dies. During this solar eclipse, the ghosts that Sally murdered reappear for a brief moment. She has the opportunity to speak to Nick, who explains to her that he ended up in limbo .

Shortly before Juliet's death, Nora reappears in Boston. She deeply regrets her behavior and explains to Josh that she has found a way to free her from the curse: he must kill his maker Ray. The curse would not only fall from him, but also from Nora. Torn, Josh finally decides to kill Ray for Nora. With Sally's help, he lures him into the forest and finally there is a duel. Suddenly Nora appears, who is asked by both Ray and Josh himself to kill him in order to free herself. Finally two shots go off; however, you cannot see who was hit.

To make amends for the damage she did, Sally now decides to go to Limbo herself to get her friends out of there. She seeks a way to get in there and eventually sees no option but to tear herself apart, ultimately destroying her second personality.

At the same time, Aidan also decides to kill mother with Henry's help so that he can finally be happy with Suren. The whole plan goes wrong, however, and both Aidan and Henry are captured. Mother now orders Suren to kill Aidan to prove that she is up to the task; she doesn't have the heart and is finally killed by her mother herself. Beside himself with anger, Aidan attacks mother; he is dragged away by the other vampires present and finally buried alive like suras once did.

In the now completely empty house, a frequency appears on the radio as if by magic. Sally tries to contact Josh and Aidan. She says she got to limbo but made a big mistake.

season 3

The third season takes place 15 months after the events of the second season. Sally is still trapped in limbo and Aidan is still buried alive. Nora and Josh, who managed to kill Ray with Nora's help and is no longer a werewolf, try to find and free their friends. Therefore, the two sought out numerous clairvoyants, without any success, until a clairvoyant sent the two to a witch. Using blood magic, she was able to bring Sally back to life, which is why she is no longer a ghost. Meanwhile, Aidan was being excavated. His rescuer had something else in mind, however, because the vampires are dying out due to a flu that contaminates human blood, which is why the man Aidan's pure blood wants to sell to the vampires. One of the Dutch rescues Aidan to "share" him with the others. During the drive, however, he dies, with the last of his strength Aidan pulls himself up and calls Sally and Josh, who then pick him up. Now the trio is complete again. Eventually Josh and Nora get married. You are overjoyed. However, Josh becomes a werewolf on his honeymoon, who only transforms back into a human when the moon is full. Sally, on the other hand, is dragged into a strange dimension by the witch Donna. Meanwhile, Aidan sees a woman on the street who looks extremely similar to his former wife.

Season 4

Sally is still trapped in the alien dimension in which she and Donna endure. Meanwhile, Nora and Aidan take care of Josh. He is still a werewolf who only transforms into a human when the moon is full and therefore would like to kill himself. Sally finally manages to free herself from the foreign dimension. With the help of her newly acquired magical power, she manages to transform Josh back into a person. But their spells come at a price. So Sally is thrown back in time by every performed spell. One day she finally shows up in the 1970s. There she witnessed the sacrifice and murder of a girl. Since she doesn't know her name, she calls the girl Lil Smokie from now on. When Sally is back in her own time, she really wants to find out who Lil Smokie was and if there is anything else she can do for her. Eventually Sally meets Beatrice Benson, who claims that she was Lil Smokie. Sacrifice and murder never seem to have happened.

Some time later, Sally is thrown back into 2010 after a powerful spell. She is still human and Danny is about to murder her. Sally decides to change her story. She defends herself and throws Danny out of the house. Shortly afterwards, she goes looking for Aidan and Josh so that they can move in with her. Sally and Aidan fall in love and have a love affair. However, not everything is going well in that time. Josh and Nora never become a couple. Nora marries a doctor. Since he treated her extremely badly, Nora eventually became addicted to tablets. Josh, on the other hand, feels lonely and abandoned. Since Sally is not in a relationship with Danny, he eventually flirts with Bridget. The two become lovers and Danny murders Bridget in the same way that he once killed Sally. Some time later, Sally also dies and becomes a ghost again. Josh and Aidan get into an argument that leads Josh to move out and open a coffee shop. With the world so out of joint, Sally finally decides to return to her own time. She seeks out Donna, who finds a charm that will bring her back to her old days. Before that, however, Sally says goodbye to Aidan, who asks her to remind Aidan of the love affair between them during her time.

Aidan and Sally soon became a couple during this time as well. In addition, Lil Smokie suddenly appears as a ghost in Sally's house. Aidan, Josh and Sally learn that her name is Ramona, that she is a twin sister of Beatrice Benson and that she actually died in the ritual that Sally observed on her journey through time. During this, Sally's brother suddenly appears in the house. He wants to sell this. However, a little later he is killed by Ramona and becomes a ghost. Sally wants to turn Robbie back into a human. Robbie flees from her and does not come back. Finally, Sally, Aidan and Josh also have to realize that Ramona is not a ghost. She was sacrificed to the demon Paimon, which greatly influenced her personality. Sally explains that Ramona is the personified evil of the house. So Sally, Josh, Nora and Aidan finally have to fight Ramona. To save Aidan, Sally turns him into a person. However, it then finally disappears from the earth. Aidan finally sacrifices himself in the fight against Ramona and pulls her with him to her death. A door to the hereafter appears. Sally stands behind this and waits for him. The two kiss, say goodbye to Nora and Josh and go over to the afterlife. A few years later, Josh and Nora have two young children. A girl named Sally and a boy named Aidan. However, the fate of the supporting characters (such as Sally's brother Robbie, Bridget, Josh's sister Emily) remains open in the end.

In the British version, the characters have different names. Their names are Mitchell (Aidan), Annie (Sally), George (Josh) and Nina (Nora). However, the name of the Syfy vampire Aidan comes from the actor playing the vampire Mitchell, who is called Aidan Turner . The main characters are very similar to those in the British series. They struggle with the same problems and have similar traits. The first season of the Syfy series is also similar to the British series. There are similar characters and stories. The stories are still not exactly like the British original, so some of them end differently. From the second season, the American series goes completely different ways and is no longer based on the actions of the British series. While the Syfy series ended after the fourth season, the British series ended after five seasons.
