Aidan Turner (born June 19, 1983 in Clondalkin , South Dublin ) is an Irish actor .

childhood and education

Aidan Turner was born and raised in Clondalkin, South Dublin. He attended St MacDara's Community College in Templeogue, a suburb of Dublin. Turner learned ballroom and Latin American dance and represented Ireland in dance tournaments. He also plays the guitar. After graduating from school, he first completed an apprenticeship as an electrician in his father's company. In Dublin he attended an acting school (Gaiety School of Acting), which he successfully completed in 2004.

Career

After graduating, he first appeared in a number of plays, including "The Plow and the Stars", "Romeo and Juliet" and "A Cry from Heaven".

In 2007 he played a small, unmentioned role for the first time in the Irish-Canadian historical television series The Tudors . In 2007 he was to be seen together with Charlene McKenna in the movie Porcelain . The film was never released, however; only a trailer appeared . From 2008 to 2009 Turner played his first major television role in the Irish doctor series The Clinic as Ruairí McGowan . In the same year he appeared in the British costume series Desperate Romantics in six episodes as Dante Gabriel Rossetti .

From 2009 to 2011 he was in the television series Being Human as the vampire John Mitchell in his most famous role to date. In the same year he starred in the BBC television film Hattie , which is based on the life of actress Hattie Jacques .

The director Peter Jackson hired Aidan Turner for the role of the dwarf Kíli in his new project The Hobbit , the film adaptation of JRR Tolkien's world-famous book classic. In the 2013 film adaptation based on Cassandra Clare's novel series Chronicles of the Underworld , Chronicles of the Underworld - City of Bones , he played Luke Garroway .

Aidan Turner has appeared as Ross Poldark in the British television series Poldark since March 2015 .

Private life

From 2007 to 2009 Aidan Turner lived with his girlfriend at the time, Charlene McKenna, in Camden , North London . The couple separated in 2009. From 2009 to 2011, Aidan Turner was in love with fellow Being-Human actress Lenora Crichlow .

His future girlfriend Sarah Greene met Turner back in 2005 when they appeared together in the play Titus Andronicus . Turner played Demetrius and Greene played a very small part. Then they lost sight of each other again. When they met again in 2012, they became a couple. In 2015, Greene and Turner split.
