Life

Cassandra Clare (2013)

The daughter of American parents was born in Tehran. She spent the first ten years of her life in France , the United Kingdom and Switzerland before going to school in Los Angeles and New York . Then she worked for magazines and the tabloids .

Initially, the author made a name for herself as a fan author under the pseudonym Cassandra Clare. She borrowed the first name of her pseudonym from Jane Austen's short story "The Beautiful Cassandra", which she had already used as the basis for a story she had written as a student.

She wrote a trilogy on " Harry Potter " ( The Draco Trilogy ) and " Lord of the Rings " ( The Very Secret Diaries of Middle Earth ). Clare was then referred to as a Big Name Fan, and her work received several press reports. The "Draco Trilogy" was described by the "Times" as "a jewel of such excellent quality" "that it inspires the reader's enthusiasm for Harry Potter". The "Daily Telegraph" made "The Very Secret Diaries of Middle Earth" a cult classic. However, through her work as a fan-writer, Clare was also confronted with allegations of plagiarism (very obvious in the case of the Draco trilogy) . These allegations of plagiarism go so far that it would be necessary to investigate how much of her fan work actually comes from her own pen, since entire passages from previously published works have been copied and this undermines her own creativity as an author.

For her first independent novel "City of Bones" (2007), which appeared under the pseudonym Cassandra Clare , city life in Manhattan inspired the author. The book was published in German in January 2008. It is the first part of the six-part series "Chronicles of the Underworld" ("The Mortal Instruments"). Part 2, "City of Ashes", was released in 2008, followed by "City of Glass" (2009), "City of Fallen Angels" (2011), "City of Lost Souls" (2012) and "City of Heavenly Fire" ( 2014).

In August 2010 the first book in the series "The Infernal Devices" was published, which takes place in the historical period before the plot of the Chronicles of the Underworld. It consists of "Clockwork Angel" (2010), "Clockwork Prince" (2011) and "Clockwork Princess" (2013).
