It lies in the Bernina group and forms the end of a mountain ridge that runs north from Piz Bernina and separates the Val Roseg in the west and Morteratschtal in the east. In the north the ridge ends in the Bernina Valley , where the northern ridge of Piz Chalchagn runs towards Pontresina .
