Evil Under the Sun (AKA: Evil under the Sun ) is an English long episode of the eighth season of the television series Agatha Christie's Poirot in 2001 by Brian Farnham . This is the second film adaptation of the novel Evil Under the Sun by Agatha Christie from 1941. The first film adaptation presented Sir Peter Ustinov in the lead role of Hercule Poirot .
action
Hercule Poirot is vacationing with his friend Hastings on the tidal island of Burgh Island in Devon . There he is involved in a murder, and it is only late that he realizes that he is the victim of a perfect staging.
Actress Arlena Marshall is found strangled on the beach. Among the crowd of illustrious hotel guests, everyone would have had a motive to commit the murder of the unpopular and pointed-tongued Arlena. Poirot investigates every suspicion with pedantic doggedness and solves the case with his own finesse.
background
The film was shot on Burgh Island , Devon , where Agatha Christie wrote the novel.
The Bible quote (Lutherbibel 1912): "There is an evil thing among everything that happens under the sun, that one thing is like another; hence the heart of men becomes full of evil, and folly is in their heart while they are alive ; after that they must die ", was used by the former pastor.
The German first edition was published in 1945 under the title Rätsel um Arlena in the translation by Ursula von Wiese by Scherz Verlag.
