Anthony Horowitz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anthony Horowitz , OBE (born April 5, 1955 or 1956 in Stanmore , Middlesex ) is a British writer and screenwriter .

Life

Anthony Horowitz grew up in a wealthy Jewish family , where he was raised by nannies. His father was a wealthy businessman. His mother, whom he adored, gave him a human skull for his 13th birthday at his request. The relationship with his grandmother was very tense, so that he and his sister danced on her grave.

At the age of eight he was sent to boarding school - the Orley Farm School in London , as was quite common in these circles at the time . The principal there beat the boys until they bled and called them stupid in front of the assembled student body. In response to this environment, he made up stories of revenge and retribution. It was at this age that he decided to become a writer. On his homepage he says that his terrible childhood experiences were a source for his literary work, which is what titles like Come to Horror-Omi! and school of horror definitely prove. His first book, The Sinister Secret of Frederick K Bower , was published by Arlington Books in 1979 . Since then he has lived as a freelance writer and is one of the most productive writers in the English-speaking world. He married Jill Green, a television producer, in Hong Kong on April 15, 1988. He and his wife live in north London with their two sons, Nicholas and Cassian .

In addition to his work as a writer, Horowitz also works as a screenwriter for film, television and the theater. His books appear in more than thirty countries and he has received various literary prizes for his Alex Rider books, which have received numerous nominations.
