Ryan K. Fleck (born September 20, 1976 in Berkeley , California ) is an American film director , screenwriter and film producer . On his projects he mostly works with Anna Boden .

Life

Ryan Fleck was born in Berkeley, California in 1976 and grew up there for several years until his family moved to Oakland.

After completing his film studies at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts , Boden and Fleck began their first film project together, Half Nelson , in the spring of 2002. Due to the lack of financial means, they shortened the script and together produced the short film Gowanus, Brooklyn . Fleck was awarded the prize for the best short film at the 2004 Sundance Festival . Previously, Fleck und Boden had the short film Have You Seen This Man? and made the documentary Young Rebels about the Havana hip-hop community.

The success of their film debut encouraged both of them to continue their long-term project. The resulting, critically acclaimed film Half Nelson was directed by Ryan Fleck. Because of his good work, he was voted one of the ten best young directors by Variety in 2006 and nominated for the Independent Spirit Award. Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden also worked together on the films Sugar , which premiered at Sundance Festival, and the film adaptation of It's Kind of a Funny Story .

He wrote the script with Anna Boden and co-directed Dirty Trip (Mississippi Grind) with her in 2014, starring Ryan Reynolds and Ben Mendelsohn .

In 2019 she directed Captain Marvel , the 21st feature film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe .
