Ben Mendelsohn (born April 3, 1969 in Melbourne ) is an Australian actor and musician .

Career

After a few television roles, the young actor Mendelsohn drew attention to himself in 1987 in the film The Year of My First Love , which was awarded by the Australian Film Institute .

He played the next leading role in Idiot Box , and he starred alongside Hugh Grant , Tara Fitzgerald and Sam Neill in the comedy Seduction of the Sirens . Mendelsohn starred in both Hollywood productions and in films from his home country, such as in Shifting Sands - Grace by director Wayne Blair in 2000 . In the same year he was in front of the camera for director Martin Campbell in Vertical Limit alongside Chris O'Donnell , Robin Tunney and Scott Glenn .

In 2005, the actor starred in the adventure film The New World with Colin Farrell and Christopher Plummer on the big screen. The actor also starred in the monumental film Australia . He embodies the role of Captain Emmett Dutton alongside his compatriots Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman . He won the 2016 Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his series role as Danny Rayburn in Bloodline .

With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story , he got a leading role again in 2016. In the Star Wars - a spin-off , he embodied the Imperial Orson Krennic whose figure in the game Battlefront received feeder.

At the end of June 2020, Ben Mendelsohn became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .

Private

Ben Mendelsohn is the son of the doctor Frederick Mendelsohn, who heads the Howard Florey Institute in Melbourne. In addition to his work as an actor, Ben Mendelsohn also plays as a musician in a band.

Mendelsohn was married to British-American journalist Emma Forrest from 2012 until their divorce in 2016. A daughter born in 2014 comes from the relationship.
