Wayne Blair
Wayne Blair (born November 28, 1971 in Taree ) is an Australian film director and actor , an Aborigine who was involved in numerous theater productions at the age of 23, including Cloudstreet , Sunshine Club , The Dreamers , Stuff Happens . He has also been involved in performances at the Bangarra Dance Theater and Richard Frankland's play Conversations With The Dead, about the Aboriginal suicides.
Life
From 1997, Blair first appeared as an actor in various television productions. He made his directorial debut with the short film Black Talk (2002), which tells the story of Tim (Russell Page), an Aboriginal boy who loses and searches for his cousin Scott (Laurence Clifford) in town. The twelve-minute drama , partly in the language of the Aborigines, shows many aspects of Aboriginal culture and community and the problems of assimilation and settling of the Aborigines into the western lifestyle. Blair also wrote the script for this.
Blair made the short film Djarn Djarns , which received the Children's Short Film Award at the 2005 Berlinale . The film tells the story of an eleven-year-old boy, a dancer who, in his Aboriginal dance group, deals with the anniversary of his father's death. This was followed by directing work for various television series from 2008. In 2012 he directed his first feature film, The Sapphires , followed by his second feature film, Septembers of Shiraz , in 2015 . In May 2017, the remake of the same name of Dirty Dancing , which he directed, was broadcast on US television.
