Louis Saalschütz

Louis Saalschütz (born December 1, 1835 in Königsberg ( East Prussia ), † May 25, 1913 in Königsberg) was a German mathematician .

He was the son of the archaeologist Joseph Levin Saalschütz and studied mathematics and physics in Königsberg from 1854 to 1860 with Friedrich Julius Richelot , Franz Ernst Neumann , Otto Hesse and Eduard Luther . In 1861 he received his doctorate under Franz Ernst Neumann with the thesis on the heat changes in the higher layers of the earth under the influence of the non-periodic temperature change on the surface. From 1861 to 1882 he taught mathematics, mechanics and engineering at the trade school in Königsberg and also at the University of Königsberg , where he became an associate professor in 1875 and a regular professor in 1888.

He continued to deal with number theory , infinite series and especially with continued fractions , Bernoulli numbers and certain integrals .
