Irène Marie Jacob (born July 15, 1966 in Suresnes ) is a Swiss - French film and theater actress who became internationally known for her leading roles in two films by Krzysztof Kieślowski , The Two Lives of Veronica and Three Colors: Red .

Life

Jacob was born near Paris in 1966 as the daughter of the physicist Maurice Jacob and a psychologist . She has three older brothers. At the age of three she moved to Geneva with her parents and lived there until 1984 when she was accepted into the Paris Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique . After finishing school, she initially lived in Lyon, but moved back to Paris when her film career began. She had her first appearance in a film as a piano teacher in Louis Malles Goodbye, Children .
