Maura Lynn Tierney (born February 3, 1965 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American actress . In Germany she was mainly recognized by her role as Dr. Abigail "Abby" Lockhart on the hospital series Emergency Room and the American sitcom NewsRadio .

Life

Tierney's parents are Pat and Joseph Tierney, a former Boston politician. She has two younger siblings.

In 1994 she married producer and cameraman Billy Morrissette and lived with him in New York and Los Angeles . There were no children from this marriage. After 13 years of marriage, Tierney filed for divorce in July 2006.

Maura Tierney was slated for a leading role in the series Parenthood , but could not accept this offer because of breast cancer . In October 2009 it was announced that Lauren Graham would replace her on the series.
