White Sands - The Big Deal (Original Title: White Sands ) is an American thriller from 1992. The director was Roger Donaldson , the screenplay was written by Daniel Pyne . The main roles were played by Willem Dafoe , Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Mickey Rourke .

Sheriff Ray Dolezal finds a dead body, in addition to a suitcase with 500,000 US dollars is. After consulting with some FBI agents, including Greg Meeker, he impersonates the victim in order to strike a deal with arms dealer Gorman Lennox. Dolezal hopes to find the killer in this way, the FBI wants to convict Lennox.

Dolezal is also contacted by two agents who introduce themselves as employees of the internal department of the FBI. They later turn out to be corrupt. Dolezal meets Lane Bodine, who knew the man who was killed. Although he is married, he starts an affair with Bodine.

There are problems with financing the arms deal, as the arms seller is demanding additional money. Lennox turns out to be a CIA employee . He kidnaps and kills the supposed employees of the internal department of the FBI. Meeker kills Lennox and flees with the suitcase from the approaching police officers and FBI agents into the desert. The suitcase opens, there is no money in it. Dolezal gives the money to Bodine and goes home.
