action

Joey O'Brien is a ruthless auto salesman who doesn't shy away from even trying to sell a car to widows at her husband's funeral. He works at the Turgeon car dealership , which, in addition to some restructuring measures , is moving after more than 35 years. Therefore there will be a sale on Sunday, in which Joey has to sell at least twelve vehicles in order not to lose his job. That would be extremely inconvenient for him right now, because he is in debt with Frankie with US $ 20,000, wants to offer luxury to his discerning lover Joy Munchack and can barely manage to support his ex-wife Tina and their daughter Lisa, let alone their college Pay for training. The only people he is currently not worried about are his mother and his second lover, the budding fashion designer Lila.

Joey just hopes that the Sunday sale goes off without a hitch. Joey starts a successful day with the adage that he himself is a “legend, lover, seller”. But the first problems soon arise. Joy appears with her husband Harry. Joey learns from Tina that Lisa has disappeared and he sometimes has to serve up to three customers at the same time. And as if that weren't bad enough, the mechanic Larry suddenly storms the car dealership with his motorcycle, explosives and a Kalashnikov , where he takes everyone hostage. He finally wants to find out who his wife Donna sleeps with at work. It's Jackie, Joey's boss, who is quick to make a run for it. Larry is so upset that he shoots wildly and doesn't let anyone flee. He is surprised, however, by Joey, who pretends to admit that he is the only one sleeping with Donna and that everyone else could leave before the police arrive.

But this is there quickly and surrounds the building. Joey realizes how stressed and confused Larry is, and steps in as a go-between. But this makes him appear on TV, and his two lovers Joy and Lila and his ex-wife Tina find out about each other. During the tense situation, Joey and Larry become friends. Therefore Joey seizes the opportunity and uses all his psychological talent, which is his own as a car salesman. He can persuade Larry to gradually release all of the hostages so that he can then surrender and later plead insanity. He would also get him the best lawyer. Larry reluctantly agrees to this, even unloads the Kalashnikov, but sets the condition not to lay down the gun, contrary to Joey's advice, because at least outwardly he wants to give up as a man and not as a washcloth. Larry leaves the dealership with Joey as a hostage, but after a few meters outside he is nervous and, shortly before he wants to surrender, shot by a police sniper who still considers him a dangerous hostage-taker. He is then taken to a hospital; his wife Donna, who still loves him, accompanies him. Joey, who is suddenly free of all financial worries, is allowed to keep his job and is celebrated as the hero of the day, calls out to Larry that, as promised, he will not let him down. Now he is only interested in his ex-wife Tina, hoping to get a second chance with her. Tina offers him the prospect of it, and Joey drives happily into the evening, but not without trying to sell a car to the hostage negotiator of the police, whom he hands a business card to.

criticism

"Cadillac Man is moderately amusing."

“A furiously staged comedy with brilliantly acting main actors; the sometimes breathtaking pace is accelerated by cleverly chosen secondary locations. "
