Roger Donaldson

Roger Lindsey Donaldson ONZM (born November 15, 1945 in Ballarat , Australia ) is a New Zealand film director , film producer and screenwriter of Australian origin.

Short biography

Donaldson, who emigrated to New Zealand in 1965 at the age of 20 , played a key role in building up the film industry there. His film debut alone, the thriller Sleeping Dogs produced in 1977 , was the first feature film to be shot in New Zealand in 15 years, and the first New Zealand film ever to make it to American cinemas .

Donaldson had studied geology for a few semesters , but he was so attracted to the movie business that he eventually turned his back on geology. In Hollywood he worked with top stars such as Mel Gibson , Tom Cruise , Kim Basinger , Alec Baldwin , Pierce Brosnan , Kevin Costner , Anthony Hopkins . His son Chris Donaldson represented New Zealand at the 1996 Olympic Games in the 100 and 200 meter races.
