Jurgen Van Den Broeck (born February 1, 1983 in Herentals ) is a Belgian cyclist .
Career
Van Den Broeck won the world junior title in the individual time trial at the 2001 UCI Road World Championships . 2003 was his first season in an international cycling team , the Belgian GS 3 team Quick-Step-Davitamon.
In 2004 he moved to the US Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team and thus to the first category of road cycling . After three years with this team, he was signed to the Predictor Lotto team in 2007 . In the years that followed, he developed into one of the best stage riders and finished four times in the top ten of a Grand Tour : He was seventh in the Giro d'Italia in 2008 , third in the Tour de France in 2010 and fourth in 2012 and eighth in the Vuelta a España 2011 . The fourth place in the 2012 Tour was already for his new Lotto Belisol team . After that, Van Den Broeck could not build on his earlier successes: between 2012 and 2015 he had to prematurely break off four major country tours. He finished the Tour de France 2014 and the Giro d'Italia 2015 in 13th and 12th overall. In the 2015 season, Van Den Broeck became national champion in the individual time trial for the first time.
After Van den Broeck drove for the Russian team Katusha in 2016 , he switched to the Dutch team Lotto NL-Jumbo in 2017 . In May 2017, the contract, which was limited to the end of the 2018 season, was terminated by mutual agreement at the end of the season. Van den Broeck stated that he had no motivation to continue a year as a professional cyclist.
