The 66th Vuelta a España took place from August 20, 2011 to September 11, 2011. It was a total of 3,330.1 kilometers long.

The three-week Spanish Cycling - stage race consisted of 21 stages and was in Benidorm with a team time trial start 13.5 kilometers. A total of ten mountain stages , including six mountain arrivals , and nine flat stages took place. In addition, an individual time trial of 47.0 km was held in Salamanca . The race ended on September 11, 2011 in Madrid .

On June 13, 2019, the UCI suspended overall winner Juan José Cobo for three years for violating anti-doping rules in the period from 2009 to 2011. Cobo, who ended his career in 2014, did not contest this ban ; thus Froome is now the overall winner of the Vuelta 2011.
