Day off (cycling)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rest day in road cycling denotes a day within a stage race on which no stage is held; the race “rests”.

According to the regulations of the World Cycling Federation UCI, there must be at least one rest day in every race with more than ten stages, which must be scheduled after five stages at the latest. For the three-week country tours Giro d'Italia , Tour de France and Vuelta a España , two rest days are stipulated, which must be evenly distributed over the event. The rest day may only be combined with a transfer between a starting point away from the destination after approval by the UCI.
